GIRLS’ AND BOYS’ STATE Two girls and a boy are selected by the faculty from the junior class in the spring to represent the school at Palmetto Girls' and Boys' StatV. These students participate for a week in activities concern- ing citizenship and state government. Selections are based upon character, leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. They are from left to right: Zoe Ann Bushouse, Larry Shaw, and Donna Whalen. KING TEEN MISS D.A.R. Tim McKeown is the current King Teen. Wofford College sponsors the King Teen, who is a senior outstanding in scholarship, high school achievement, personal ap- pearance, dependability, leader- ship, and popularity. Rachel Fellers is this year's Miss D.A.R. The Daughters of the American Revolution offer a cer- tificate to a senior girl having outstanding qualities of dependa- bility, leadership, service and pa- triotism. Miss D. A.R. represents the school in the State D.A.R. Good Citizens Contest. 146

The current Miss Hi Miss is Barbara Young. The Johnsonian of Win- throp College sponsors Miss Hi Miss, who is selected from the junior class by the faculty on the basis of scholarship, leadership, and per- sonal attractiveness. Rachel Fellers is the current Miss Sportsarama. She was chosen by the faculty to represent Dentsville at the annual Sportsarama football game sponsored by the Seratoma Club. MISS HI MISS MISS SPORTSARAMA YOUTH APPRECIATION John Foster, Marsha Jarrett and Michael Givens were chosen by the Optimist Club to participate in Youth Appreciation Week. 147
