We were looking forward to the next four years. We realized that enter- ing high school was an important step in our lives. Our freshman yea r with our large class presented a problem, so we were divided. We elected as our presidents Johnny Harrison and Tony Buie, and under the leadership of our sponsors Mr. John Huffman and Mr. A. M. Snider, we had a very enjoyable year. As we began our sophomore year, our class had diminished. We had a cla s s of fifty-eight students and had as our presidents Ned Surratt and Johnny Harrison. This was a special year for some, those who were elected waiters and waitresses for the Junior-Senior Banquet and those who became members of the basketball teams. Our sponsors were Miss Anne Mason and Mr. A. D. Cannon, and with their help we had a very successful year. Ourjunior year was whatwe had waited for. First of all, we elected o ur cla s s president, Ned Surratt. There was much excitement and much anticipation, although there was a lot of work, too. I guess the three most outstanding things were getting class rings, becoming members of Beta Club, if you were lucky, and the Junior -Senior Banquet. The theme for the Junior-Senior Banquet was a Southern Plantation Garden Party. Everyone present thoroughly enjoyed it. At la s t we we r e seniors, and hoping we could claim the largest graduating class of D.H.S., forty-eight. With the help of our very able sponsor, Mrs. Jack Smith, and our class president, Angie Robbins, we s ta rt e d the year off with a bang. We served on the Dentonian and P h o e n i x s t a f f s , played basketball, and participated in many other activities. Then we selected superlatives and planned our graduation, the long awaited day. We have experienced many happy occasions which will never be forgotten. We , the Seniors of '58, wish to express our thanks to our senior sponsor, Mrs. Jack Smith, who has helped us through this year in such awonderful way. We would also like to say Thanks to our principal, Mr. Jones, and to our parents, without whose help we would never have achieved our education. With good times and hard work, The years have gone so fast. Our parents and our teachers: You've been so loyal and trueg To you we owe a debt Of everlasting gratitude. In these twelve years we've learned The principles of life: Fellowship, sportmanship, And faith to face all strife. We'll miss ole Denton High And all our friends so dear. I, Bobby Taylor, will my ba s eball suit to my brother Be aufo rd ,inthe hope that he will enjoy being on the team as much as I have. I, Jeff Wilson, will my Leathe r Jacket and Boots to Dewayne Snider. Having appointed our class advisor, Mrs. Smith, as sole exe cuto r of this Will and testament, and in witness of her and the s e nio r class, I, the testator, have set my hand and seal on this the 23rd day of May in the year 1958. Class Testator Susan Garner ki h , fm of Senior Statistics Here is what you have all been looking for--the deep, dark, mysterious, dope on the s e nio r s . So put on your dark glasses, fasten your safety belts, and read. The average senior girl is approximately 5'6 , weighing 115 pounds, with a toss-up between black and brown hair with blue and brown eyes. The boys are very nice, standing approximately 5'9 with brown hair and blue or brown eyes. The inte re st s of the seniors varyg but everyone seems to enjoy Rock and Roll, Elvis P re s l ey , popular, and even Long Hair music. So it is no surprise that the most watched TV Program is The Big Record. A majo r interest is basketballg everyone agrees that this is tops. It is possible that some of us are prejudiced, since quite a few are either on the team or cheer- leaders. To prepare for a big game the seniors indulge in their favorite foods, steak and spagetti. In baseball the Dodgers rank first with the Yanks coming in close behind. However, in the screen world J ayne Man s field and Rock Hudson rank highest. Movies at theaters, in or around Denton are the reason for this. 'S' 'Q fin X F3 f June is a very popular month with the seniors, especially the S girls. Anytime you see something blue, it's probably a senior, as most of us prefer blue as a color, but never for a mood. Never let it be said that the s e ni o r s are not a lively group. If they stay the same, success is sure to follow. The majority of the seniors are very busy and ambitious, wishing to be nurses, engineers, secretaries, teachers, etc. The future looks bright! That's about all of the dope on the s e nio r s . Quite a crowd, those seniors! Janet Anderson Class Statistician il V + ef 34 Qty 6fT 'D lilass Praplzccy The day-May 2.0, 1978. The place-Rocket airport 983416 at D e n t o n , N o r t h Carolina, the largest in- dustrial city in the South. T h e o c c a s i o n - The 20th anniversary celebration of the graduation class of 1958. The honored m e mb e r s should arrive any moment now. Yes, there comes a man that has done much to industrialize this city. It's Johnny Harrison, the inventor of the first ray gun, the production of which was Denton's first large indu s t ry . With hirn are his secre- taries, Ann Lanier and Deanne Rash. The sounds of rockets are getting louder now as more guests arrive. Stepping off her b right , red rocket is Janet Anderson, the famous actress, with a few of the other guests who have consented to entertain for this occasion. Yes, there's that hilarious ha r m o ni c a gang: Norman Henderson, Ben Allen, Thomas Adams, and Max Bisher. They caught a ride with Janet from their homes in Beverly Hills. Here comes some more guests. It's Ellen Andrews, the celebrated art critic, now arriving with her understudies, Cynthia Bradshaw and Kirksey Michael. Zooooom!! What is that? Oh, it'sthose two racerocket drivers Tony Buie and Austin Cook, arriving in their new Z million horse- power rockets. Wait a minute - there are Ke nne th Cook and Bobby Dunn riding co- pilot with them. It looks cloudy, but weathermen Lowell Fine and Rayvon Fr ank have promised us no rain. Here are some more great industrialists of this city - Gallimore and Gallimore, better known as Darrell and Donald, builders of the first gasturbine powered train . Their secretary, Lillian Garner, is with them. B e hi nd the m are their competitors Garne r and Garner, known by friends as Jerry and Kenneth . They are working on the idea of running a train with energy from the sun. With them is their secretary, Nancy Goins. Now arriving are more ladies. There are Evelyn Frank and Barbara Harris, two nu r s e s from the newly constructed D. Ed Hill Memorial Hospital. Right behind them are Dr. Hoyt Harris and Dr. Clarence Loflin, who got off work at the hospital for the celebration. There are Sus an Garne r and Nancy Hunt ar riving from their new homes in Silverwood, a restricted housing develop- ment near the s o uthe rn limits of Denton. This place was once called Handy, I think. Why, there's Ned Surratt, center on the world-champion Denton Dribblers basketball team. Some of his fans are around him. Oh, there are those two well-known old maids, Geraldine Lax and Sara Dell Little, getting his autograph. Arriving now is the newest hit on B roadway . It's that sing and dance act, The Loflins, consisting of Barbara,Janet, and Fay Dean. . Who's that man with a pencil inhis hand? Why, it's Roy Lee Morris, and that's not a pencil, it's a miniature microphone. I understand he and the big man ove r there with the small television camera, just opened the new television station, WICU-TV. That man be hind the title TV camera looks familiar. It's Grayson Reid, camera- man and techinician at the new station. This clas s of 1958 certainly seems to have teamed up. Yes, here comes about the ri che st team of all. It's L. H. Snider and Max Newby, who dis c o v e r e d oil near the coast of North Carolina. That certainly is a beautiful gold rocket they're flying. There's the famous Revlot cosmetics queen, Angie Robbins , with two of her district s ale s wo me n , Loretta Nance and Marilyn Russell. He r e c o m e s that old dirt farmer, Wade Snider. Call him dirt farmer if you like, but he has a beautiful 5,000 acre farm just north of Denton. P r e s i d e nt and Vice-President of the Badyear Plastic Co. are now landing - Clarence Glover and Jeff Wilson, pioneers in the manufacture of plastic tires for rocketmobiles. Now arriving are those two well- known baseball players for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Bobby Taylor and Benny Owens. Well, we're all he re except-say, what are all the guests clapping for? Oh, it's our 1958 class sponser, Mrs. Sara Smith, arriving in her old beat up 1968 Plymouth. fSchoolteachers still don't get paid eno1!gh.l Now, everyone's he r e and it's time to go out to our ultra-modern gymnasium for a big party. I think l'll jump in my old 1918 T model coupe and drive to the party. Broke? What do you mean?
