Lflass History Asllookback upon our high school years, I recall fifty-seven excited green freshmen entering Denton High in the fall of '50, We were looking forward to the next four years with great anticipation. We realized that entering the ninth grade was an important step in our lives. Realizing the importance of becoming established as high school students, and being respected accordingly, we decided to elect a class president to be our guiding light. We chose Don Rea Grubb, and with the help of our sponsor, Mr. A. M. Snider, we had a very successful and enjoyable year. Our sophomore year found our class slightly diminished. Those of us who did return, however, felt a little bigger because now we were called upper- classmen. We elected Sue Cole, president, and Mr. George Lyndon, Sponsor. This year found us dissecting frogs. By the end of the year, we felt that we were really in , especially when some of us were cho s en waite r s and waitresses at the Junior-Senior Banquet. Our Junior year came, bringing with it the participation in many activities and club initiation of which we had dreamed for so long. Benson Futrell, Jr., and Mrs. Betty Benton helped us to enjoy these many activities and accomplish many worth -while things. First ofallcame the exciting event of Beta club tapp - ing. Nine Of themost outstanding members were invited to join. Next, we ex- hibited our talents in the class play, Thank You, Mr. Parker. Then we received our class rings which we displayed so proudly. One of the highlights of the year was our banquet, when we paved the way for the seniors and faculty to our Garden of Friendship. The year soon came to a close, and we watched our superiors walk that final mile to receive their diplomas. Our hearts were filled with pride and nervous excitement as we realized that now we stood in their places. Now we have reached the climax of our four years at Denton High School. We have been but a small twenty-five. Peggy Oakley as our class president and Miss Colleen Story, our sponsor guided us through many memorable events. We served on the Dentonian and Phoenix staff, we played football and basket- ball, and experienced many happy occasions that will never be forgotten. We, the Seniors of 54, wish to express our thanks and gratitudeto Miss Story, our senior sponsor, for the wonderful way she has helped us through this last year. We would also like to say Thanks to the faculty, to Mr. Jones, and to Mr. Huss, our former principal for making these last years such memorable ones.
