MISS COLLEEN STORY Sponsor MASCOTS Adeline Lomax Franklin Smith, III CLASS FLOWER CLASS MOTTO CLASS COLORS Red Carnation United, we stand, Baby Blue and White Divided, we fall Lflass History Asllookback upon our high school years, I recall fifty-seven excited green freshmen entering Denton High in the fall of '50, We were looking forward to the next four years with great anticipation. We realized that entering the ninth grade was an important step in our lives. Realizing the importance of becoming established as high school students, and being respected accordingly, we decided to elect a class president to be our guiding light. We chose Don Rea Grubb, and with the help of our sponsor, Mr. A. M. Snider, we had a very successful and enjoyable year. Our sophomore year found our class slightly diminished. Those of us who did return, however, felt a little bigger because now we were called upper- classmen. We elected Sue Cole, president, and Mr. George Lyndon, Sponsor. This year found us dissecting frogs. By the end of the year, we felt that we were really in , especially when some of us were cho s en waite r s and waitresses at the Junior-Senior Banquet. Our Junior year came, bringing with it the participation in many activities and club initiation of which we had dreamed for so long. Benson Futrell, Jr., and Mrs. Betty Benton helped us to enjoy these many activities and accomplish many worth -while things. First ofallcame the exciting event of Beta club tapp - ing. Nine Of themost outstanding members were invited to join. Next, we ex- hibited our talents in the class play, Thank You, Mr. Parker. Then we received our class rings which we displayed so proudly. One of the highlights of the year was our banquet, when we paved the way for the seniors and faculty to our Garden of Friendship. The year soon came to a close, and we watched our superiors walk that final mile to receive their diplomas. Our hearts were filled with pride and nervous excitement as we realized that now we stood in their places. Now we have reached the climax of our four years at Denton High School. We have been but a small twenty-five. Peggy Oakley as our class president and Miss Colleen Story, our sponsor guided us through many memorable events. We served on the Dentonian and Phoenix staff, we played football and basket- ball, and experienced many happy occasions that will never be forgotten. We, the Seniors of 54, wish to express our thanks and gratitudeto Miss Story, our senior sponsor, for the wonderful way she has helped us through this last year. We would also like to say Thanks to the faculty, to Mr. Jones, and to Mr. Huss, our former principal for making these last years such memorable ones. Signed by Patricia Morris, wit nessed by Miss Story, and sealed by the Editor of the Phoenix. Testator Patricia Morris 611155 Prophecy I am Marching Time ----- Prepare yourself for a trip into the future. It is 1974--twenty years have passed since the class of 54 graduated. First we will drive out to the Davidson County Airport, where we will board a T.W.A. 300-mile an hour Constellation to Hollywood. The pilot, Keith Hunt, prepares to take off with Adrena Garner as air stewardess, and Elsie Myers as air hostess. Among the passengers we find those delayed honey- mooners, Linda and Don Peacock. Carol Jean and Bobby Williams are also a- mong these. Oh yes, they have the triplets along. It's twenty minutes later and we have arrived in Hollywood. I am very hungry, so I will go to that famous restaurant, owned by Betty Lou Allred and operated by Buren Skeen. After an evening of relaxation at the home of two of Hollywood's most fa- mous stars, Sue Cole and Bobbie Ann Sexton, I will goto the Golden Glove Box- ing Matches. Tonight the world's Middle Weight Champion will be crowned. Norman Red Keith is favored to win. Virgil Pierce, Red's manager, has done a fine job. Now we must leave Hollywood and return to Denton, where Wayne Ward is buildinga college for boys. Charles Loftin will do the construction work on the main office. Wayne is planning to buy all of his lumber from the Gilbert Futrell Lumber Company. Bobby Garneris there to count the lumber, so there will not be any mistakes. Benson Futrell and Patricia Morris are now working together. Ber1S0H, with the help of his nurse, Peggy Oakley, is a great surgeon, but ever so often his hand slips, and the patient kicks the bucket. This is where Patricia comes in ----- The patient, cold and stiff, goes to her to be embalmed. Patricia is known as The Friendly Undertaker. Ronald and Donald Hedrick, two young men with quiet and dignified manner, have become half owners of Coble Dairies, Inc. Sunday morning I went to church. The speaker, Don Rea Grubb, a miss- ionary returned from China, gave a very interesting talk. This morning I visited dear ole Denton High School. As I passed the Office I noticed Mr. Jones had hired a secretary. She is none other than Betty Jean Pierce. I strolled through the hall, and in the lst rooml found Betty Jane Smith teaching math. Farther on down the hall, I found Mildred Snider, who replaced Mr. A. M. Snider in the History Department. Next, I came to the ole faithful classe de francais. Who should I see but Mademoiselle Story? Yes, she's still there, and still single--she had so many suitors shecouldn t make up her mind, so she ended up not getting one. Poor thing! ! ! ! She wanted to know what I had been doing for myself these twenty years. Me? Oh, I'm still walking nonchalantly around seeing what kind of mischief I can get into, Mr. Huffman always did say that would be my career. I must march on ---- Goodby! ! Barbara Garner Class Prophet Klass Pam We bid you all a fond farewell, With sadness in our hearts, The reason for our sadness is The time has come to part.
