MASCOTS BOBBY SMITH MARCIA LYNN VICKERS t 1 Class Prophecy Mars - J une l6, 2053. To you people on earth this mayseemvery strange. The senior class of 1 953 has come to this planet in a space¬ ship invented by James Howard Loftin, and we have lived here for a hun¬ dred years by drinking a drug discovered by Chemist, Leon Walker. I am sure all of you want to know what every member is doing; so if you will follow me, you will soon see. Here is Jupiter Square, to which most of you have already been at¬ tracted by the bronze statue of our science teacher, Mr. A. M. Snider. Across the street from the square is our largest space-ship manu¬ facturing plant, owned by Carl Glover and Roby Loflin. Because this plant extends for a block, we will cross another street to Venus Avenue. The building you see there covers 50 acres. Most of the girls work here because it is our only clothing industry. In the de¬ signing department Jane Tillotson has just finished the design of a steel coat which will certainly be needed because of our severe winters. In the sewing room, Betty Louise Buie is supervising the seamstresses, Elwina Lanier and Jamie Rea Laughlin. Down in the modeling depart¬ ment Shirley Harrison is modeling a lovely aluminum gown for stylist Eugene Snider . Since we use mechanical machines, sales people aren’t needed. Before we go out of the store, we’d better put on d ark glasses be¬ cause up here we are much nearer the sun. Our next stop is the Patrol Station. Oh! Maybe I should have pre¬ pared you for this; but since you are here, you might as well see. There they are, Phyllis Garner and Doak Gallimore, with miniature rockets on each arm ready for duty. All of us use these miniatures in place of cars, and Bob Morris has become a millionaire from manufacturing them. They were his idea, of course. Beside the Patrol Station, Ralph Cook and Ronald Morris operate our only farms . All our food is raised without soil, but with electricity. If anything explodes, Phyllis and Doak will be right on hand. Patsy Sexton and Jean Tysinger are experimenting hour after hour with cosmetics. They have made a lipstick that the sun can’t melt and a shampoo that dyes hair by washing it. Crossing to Moonbeam Street — Oh I Wait- here comes Ronald Mor¬ ris with a rocket load of plants. On the corner of Moonbeam Street, Dot Branson and Joan Davis are content with their exotic beauty parlor. These girls use products from the Pat-Jean Lab. Before we go any further, I know you want to see our University; so just slip on your rockets, and we will be there in a second. The found¬ er, Rex Luther, is on Mercury now- giving lectures. We will be greeted by the president, Bobby Dean Williams. Professor Graham Snider is with the English Department. Miss Mary Louise McDowell is teaching Math, and Erie Maynard is coaching his football teams . They have been Universal Champions for the past three years. You must know who planned the beautiful college building. Miss Nellie Rogers was the architect; and with the help of Gene Peacock, they were constructed. As we fly from the University, notice the houses. All but one are of glass. The wooden home belongs to Louise Young, “The Anderson’s really. ” Bill used to work for a lumber company, so he used wood to make him feel at home. Louise has a kindergarten all her own. Class Prophecy You must be very tired, so let ' s fly over to Betty Lou Kinney ' s res¬ taurant and get something to eat. Her star cream and moonburgers are always refreshing. If everyone is finished, we will go to Milky Way Boulevard to see our movie stars. On Studio One, Roger Smith is rehearsing for his next show, Where In the Universe. Getting ready for the next scene is Barbara Yokley, our concert pianist. She is on hydrovision too. We can ' t see Jimmy Huffman today, because he is on location on the moon. He has wonderful tap routines for his next picture, Singing in the Stars. Now let ' s slip on your rockets again, and be very quiet. Do you see that Mercu-bite structure over there? Larry Penry is in that building doing research on cosmicmissiles for Inter-Planet Security Council. Larry has already visited six planets. Now you have seen every member of the Senior Class of 1953. If you want to see us again, ask Mrs. E. O. Lane, because she is the only person we can communicate with. Oh, Stars! I almost forgot to tell you what I am doing, but youhave just seen-- I still run errands and make announcements just as I did in Denton High School. If you ever space it up to Mars, please let us be your guide again. Nancy Crouse Class Prophet Class Song (Tune - Auf Wiederseh ' n) Auf Wiederseh ' n, - auf Wiederseh ' n We’ll meet again, classmates These lovely years have flown away The time has come to part. Joanne Davis , Testator We come before you this last time With sadness in each heart; Because of you our life began- Because of you we part. Through all the years we’ve been to school. We’ve shared our joys and fun. We leave with just one thought in mind. Our tasks have just begun. When in our works of later years. We’ll look on Denton High, Forever to you we’ll be true. And now we say goodbye. Our teachers, loved so dear by all. We thank you very much. We never would have made the grade Without your helping touch. You’ve strived to teach us wrong from right. You’ve kept our courage high; And now alas, we shall depart, The time is drawing nigh. Jimmy Huffman Class Poet History The Senior Class of 1 953, entered high school with sixty-four ambitious members. We began our high school career by electing Nancy Crouse as our class president. Although we were large in num¬ ber, we were small in knowledge. However, with the excellent help of Mr . A. M. Snider, we began to make progress. We worked hard and the time passed very quickly; soon it was time for summer vacation. On the return from our summer vacation, we became Sophomores. Several of our old classmates were not present, but we had obtained a firm foundation for the coming year. Through the guidance of Mr. George Lyndon, we once again got into the swing of study and advance¬ ment. Shirley Harrison was selected to lead us as class president. Although our activities as a class were small, the year moved rapid¬ ly on. We found ourselves looking forward to becoming Juniors. With this anticipation in mind, we completed our Sophomore year. We started our Junior year by choosing as our president, Henry Surratt. Our class had decreased to thirty-eight members, and we gave up our hope of becoming the largest graduating class of Denton High School. However, our minds became occupied with thoughts of receiving our class rings, one of the prized possessions of all high school students. These thoughts soon turned into reality because, before we knew it, we were wearing them . Our attention was now centered on the Junior-Senior Banquet for which we selected the Ha¬ waiian theme. Under the supervision of Miss Linda Wilson, we work¬ ed hard and had fun making ready for the Senior and Faculty to visit Hawaii. We feel that their visit was also hi-lighted by our class play, ‘‘The DaffyDills” which was a great success. Graduation time found us with regret as we watched the Seniors of 1952 move on and as we realized the responsibilities now resting on our shoulders. We began our Senior year with feelings of confidence, pride and responsibility. After three years of high school, our class now had only thirty-three members, but we began to realize-the true meaning of “unity”. Moreover, our class now functioned as a unity. With the devoted help of our Senior Sponsor, Mrs. E. O. Lane, our last year has been made highly successful. For four years we have been look¬ ing forward to our day of graduation. Now, since it has finally arriv¬ ed, we would like to give our “profound thanks” to the Faculty, to our principal, Mr. Jones, and to our former principal, Mr. Huss, for making these years enjoyable as well as progressive.
