T a n . ?7? , ' r ' . , ' T -. , , ,,v . ' .rr y j ' L4SS£g p Does it not seem hard to realize that the class now graduating from this school was ever a class of green young freshmen? Yet such is the fact. Four years ago we entered high school, a bit uncertain as to what the years ahead would bring; but under the supervision of Miss Aulene Powell with Johnny Beck as our president, we soon learned our way about. Our freshman daj ' s were short lived. Soon a year had passed, and we were sophomores. This year we welcomed some new members to our class and were under the direction of Miss Pauline Roach with Frances Tysinger as our President. In the fall of 1947, we returned to school to find that we were juniors. This year we entered into many social events with Miss Rebecca Dalton as our supervisor. Foy Morris was welcomed to our class and was immediate¬ ly elected president. Our Junior play “She’s My Daisy” and the Junior-Senior Banquet “Old South” really proved that we realized the responsibility of our po¬ sitions. Then came the climax, the senior year. Several members of our class did not return for the final stop. Mrs. E. O. Lane, our able leader, and Sara Harrison, our class president, guided us successfully through this last and most important year. We are nearing the end of our educational journey; our duties as sen¬ iors are almost over. As we leave this school, we must truthfully admit that whatever troubles and annoyances have come to us have been largely our fault. With all oj you we leave this thought in mind, “Today we Sail; Tomorrow we Anchor.” Dorothy Doby Class Historian ri I I am Mother Time - steel yourself for a trip into the future. It’s 1958, and the world has changed for the betterment of women. First we’ll visit the modern home. Ah - what have we here? Bending over a hot atomic stove is Billy Carroll preparing dinner. Tied to his apron strings are Bill Jr. and little Sally. Upon question we find that his unpre¬ dictable wife Sara is off hunting with her bazooka and mechanical dog. She will probably be late for dinner. So on we must go! Next we’ll stop at the Pink House (once known as the White House) where we find Rebecca Futrell as first lady of the nation, President Rebecca Futrell. As always she is quick to begin conversation and tells us of her husband (her third one) who is none other than Johnnie Beck of class ’49. He’s one of these flippy men who never make up their minds, always running here and there and staying on the telephone-tele- vision all afternoon. Beckie’s primeTminister of jokes to Mars, Dorothy Rose Morgan, just pulled one on their top joker. She asked why the mouse left home. For minutes there was no answer, and Rose burst out with - because he found out his father was a Rat. All Mars roared with laughter. While Beckie is tending to some businesss, Johnnie gives out with the latest gossip. It’s rumored that Eugene Young has been to the Super-Sonic Beauty Salon three times this week to have his hair dyed, and his wife Frances Tysinger is having a time keeping his bills paid. She pilots a jet plane from the earth to the moon and has little time for Eugene. Evadean Morris, who owns the Chevrolet airplane works, has been taking Billy Davis out to dinner lately; and it’s rumored that it’s a sure thing she will pop the question. .Bill will soon be an old bachelor, you know. That lucky Catherine Carrick is one of the most famous women in the world. Why just the other day she sold 5,000 Atomic Sun-ray Skin Tanners to the fair men of Denton, North Carolina. We must leave Johnnie and travel on. What is that I hear now? Oh yes - it’s the famous orators Betty Reid Loflin and Rachel Brower. They are speaking about the sensational Berlin address delivered by Virgie Loflin in 1950 to the people of Germany. It was this great speech that saved the world from a third world war. You remem¬ ber Jean Rogers who married John Jarvis - well she is now owner and operator of the Atlantic-Pacific Stream Line Railway Co. - what love can do! Now for some entertainment! Joan Floyd runs the only giggling arena in the world, and Elaine Snider directs a choir of 100 people who sing, “I’ve Been working on the Railraod’’ in a different city every night. Ava Lea Lanier owns a racing car and is world famous for her reckless driving for which she has won several gold cups. Let’s turn to the agriculture of our fair country. Paul Bean is the cook and house keeper for Joan Surratt who owns a large cattle farm near Handy. Barbara Grubb and Imogene Gallimore are still living in wedded bliss without a care in the world, except for the huge vegetable farm they operate with the help of their husbands. Would you like to travel on and have some more enterainment? Patsy Buzhardt, famous soprano opera singer, sings “Auld Land Syne” as we enter the international gymnasium for a basketball game. Guess who the coach of the All American girl’s team is? Lucille Harri¬ son! She’s the most brilliant coach of our time. Her technique is very much like that of T. K. Huss in ’49 Now let us visit the metropolis of the South, Asheboro. To no one’s ' surprise we find Peggy Gallimore operator and owner of the world’s largest implement company. Her husband. Bob Holt, is hom.e beating the brats and putting them to bed. Ahh! What have we here? Nell Adams chasing Foy Morris with an old time fire shovel. Don’t get excited; it’s only a play. Nell is trying to direct ' her leading actor, Foy, in the picture “Life in ’49”. Dorothy Loflin, society’s best entertainer, holds open house every night. Dorothy has been supporting her handsome husband for some time now. While we are visiting, why not run down to Texas? We’ll go by Atomic Bus. Dorothy Lea Doby happens to own the International Bus Line that runs across the U. S. in short order. “Be quiet everybody,” the bus driver is speaking. He’s asking everyone to please fasten their safety belts. Hey! It’s none other than our old friend Charles Lax, who was once a school bus driver. Well, here we are in Texas. It is owned by James Hunt’s wife. He lives in luxury, wears a 20 gallon hat, and carries a cap buster. Life can be beautiful. My visit is about over. I hear Father Time calling me, but there is one more person we must see. It’s the last one l eft from the senior class of ’49. You know who it is? Of course it’s Mrs Lane. She’s in Morgan ton and is enjoying herself very much, although she hasn’t taught school for several years. Her sympathetic and understanding class of ’49 reserved a padded cell. Oh yes! There is still one more I had forgotten; it’s Mary Mitchell, but I won’t tell about her. It’s too touching to speak of. I must go. Goodbye! Mary Mitchell Class Prophet T OIlaHa Po?m A.-. ★ ★ ★ ★ New friendships were formed in 37 When we first-graders met. To be together was our aim; That thought is echoed yet. All through the grammer grades we sped; And freshman we became- So awkward, green and silly too, With hopes to win much fame. For twelve long years we’ve worked so hard But oh, what years they’ve been- Years filled with work and fun and joy, With worries now and then. And now at last the time has come! We Seniors lead the way. Bright caps and gowns, but heavy hearts. Are ours on this great day. We’re proud of the part. Dear Denton High, You’ve had in moulding each one. We’ll always hold your mem’ries dear When our school days are done.
