Speech Closses Sponsor Sweepstokes The Honor Society took advantage of the crowds at Denton High by pro- viding a bake sale for the visitors. Robert Caldwell helps a girl from Highland Park select the best cookies to take to her group. Tournciment Each year Mrs. Hall and Dr. DeMougeot organize the Denton Sweepstakes Tournament. One of the largest such tournaments in Texas, Denton hosted 59 schools and 1200 contestants. The Thespians, the Speech Club, the Debate Club, NFL, and the Dramatics organizations all contributed long hours helping to make the tournament run smoothly. Mrs. Threadgill, one of Mrs. Hall's student teach- ers, played a maior part in the planning and prep- aration of the tournament. Denton High School benefits from the recognition that the dedicated speech students are able to bring to it. Finding some people that he had met at a previous tournament, Bill Schaaf enioys the time before the assembly. Denton stu- dents assisted the visitors by explaining where to find various buildings in North Texas. Members of the speech classes worked all morning registering the hundreds of out-of-town visitors. Karen Friedsam and Kathy Reynolds work busily trying to catch up as more students ioin the lines. 23
