During football season the Bronco band divides into two separate groups: the Purple Band and the Gold Band. This allows the entire band to participate in pep rallies by weekly alternation, Trumpeters, James Osborn, Donna Faris and Cheryl Kooker of the Purple Band help provide the needed atmosphere of spirit. Football boys, Glendon McWhorter, Earl Nuckles, Jimmy Martino, Joe Barns and Ronnie DeFoor return to their seats after Coach Whitson has introduced them to the DHS student body. Pep Rallies Encourage Team Efforts ln formation at the pep rally against Tyler, members of the pep club Bronco cheerleader, Deborah Sharber, does pom-pom motions to the band music as the crowd cheers enthusiastically. go through hand motions to add organized support from the student body. ll' I7

First Week Concludes on Friendly Note Mark Jones, the lead singer of the Box Springs , pauses as the band plays a musical interlude during Gloria . New and old students take advantage of the band's ability as they crowd the large dance floor. Sue Rainey and Danny Gafford enjoy the fast beat of the band at the Howdy dance, while faculty sponsors look for outstanding spirit and friendliness displayed by the students. For the first time, a D.H.S. party was held in the new Denton Civic Center. The facilities of the building provided an interesting variation from the tradition of having the parties in the high school cafeteria. I6 's--- mnmnqt, ,.,,.. . Janet Ferguson and David Thomason were chosen Mr. and Miss Howdy by the faculty.

Exes, Students, Tecichers Gctther XJX. Nineteen Sixty-Seven Homecoming Queen nominees: Julie Lewis, .. Becky Boynton, Dixie Schulze and Jan Nichols. The Student Council always plays an important role in Home- coming acfivities. Rhonda Sherrill watches to see that all Exes register, while Ann Sidor and Elise Durham pass out Horseshoes to visitors. W Pat Moore relates to Ann Whitson the trouble she has been having trying to make sure that the crepe paper does not run out before she is ready to at- tach it. I8 It is a Denton High tradition that the football boys sit together during the Homecoming Assembly. Mitchell Merritt stops to talk with some of the Broncos before taking his seat for the program.
