Not onee has he failed in his line of duty either to the teachers or to the students. He assumed his share of responsibility and always performs his tasks to the very best of his ability. Pain ' - X Ya. lklr. Calhoun, whom we all affeetionxtely call Prof, is universally liked by the students and faculty. No one can ever doubt his loyalty to the school and to all those connected with it. His interest in our aetivities never wavers, and each of us feels free to talk with him about all of our problems whether they be trivial or serious. At times his tasks must be almost too great for one man, but Prof simply smiles and shakes his head and then goes about whatever work he has before him with never a mumur of complaint. The contest usually opens about the middle of April, and after the nominations have heen made the girls who have received the greatest number of votes are in the contest for the honor of Queen of Senior lligh School. To add variety to the contest and at the same time to add to the financial aspect of the annual we select various means of voting. One year the voting was hy hottles, one hottle a voteg another year we used coat hangers: last year we used coat hangers and egg cartons. The identity of the Queen is kept a secret until the night of her coronation which is always on the night of the senior class play. The favorite contest is conducted very similar to our State Democratic Primary elections. This year after the nominations had heen made, each student received a poll tax receipt and used this on election day when he went to his designated voting place. 'ln the class favorites the memhers of each class vote for the favorite from his class only. The results of this contest are announced as soon as the votes are counted. If at any time the race is close, a run-oil is held immediately after the election. Perhaps one of the most interesting phases of this contest is ,the day on which campaign speeches are made in assemhly. Each candidate has a campaign manager whose duty it is to see that his candidate wins the election. The halls on that day are covered with placards advertising the merits of the candidates and the speeches in assemhly often reflect much ingenuity on the part of the managers. X ? Arm chairs are to replace desks and a chaise lounge for the teacher. Each room will have a filing cabinet with a hidden barg these are to be hidden because we do not want vis- itors to get the wrong impression of our school, and too, they might drink it all up. Sleeping tablets are to be served at the water fountains to save the teachers the trouble of putting the students to sleep. The library is to be changed to a dance hallg beer is to be given away with every book re- turned. Mr. Redway says: Due to my tech- nical knowledge, I wish to assert that if a BB was shot at an angle of 90 degrees, from a distance of 7 3!10 centimeters into the water tower, that, provided there were not over the average number of baths taken, it would take the fluid content of the tower exactly 5 years, 8 months, 3 weeks, 4 days, 9 hours, 6 minutes, and 59 3110 seconds to bow out.-If I'rn not wrong. i- Weather Report By Assorted Press CENSORED Military Secret Training Rules Are Changed Coach Carter and Slack have announced that there will be changes made in the football and basketball training rules of 1942. The squad is required to stay out most of the night before an afternoon game so their eyes will be half closed the next day and the glaring sun will not keep them from playing well. The boys are forced to have a date every night and are not allowed to take the girl home until after 2:00 o'clock. This, the coaches feel, is a good idea for they will get so sick of the girls on their dates that they will not bother to look at them the next day and thus can keep their minds on their athletics. k We have also heard it reported that spring training will be at Mid-Way. This is for convenience and is in line with National Defense for it will save the trip back and forth and will conserve tires and gasoline. A n The School Board Meets The School Board has decided that four credits will be a sufficient amount on which to graduate. The main courses now offered at D. H. S. are library, study hall, and rest periods in 205. Many of our students have found it a good idea to major in Dentention Hall. This gives them a good background for any work they decide to enter, especially if it is in the criminal line. It is now a rule that each student must spend two hours at Koiners each day and fail at least three subjects before he is permitted to graduate. Changes ln Faculty It has been reported by very reliable sources that there are to be changes made in our faculty. Mr. Redway is to be in charge of girls physical educa- tion, Miss Boswell is to teach physics and Mr. Carter to teach dramatics. Miss Tevis will be in charge of the F.F.A. and Mr. Slack will teach Home Ec. Miss Carpenter is reported to coach football with Miss Mizell as assistant coach. Mr. Jones will teach secretarial training and Mrs. McKelve'y will take charge of manual training. Miss Lewis will teach bund while Mr. McMath will take over chemistry classes. Miss Lyon is to be appointed Superintendent and Miss Cocanougher is to be Principal. ' Prof and Mr. Paterson are to be Co-Janitors while Mr. Roarke will be sobial secretary to the young ladies doing student teaching. Mr. Beeman and Mr. Wilson will keep their respective classes but resolve to maintain better order. - Confusus say- Ching chang chong fuya toya uya. ....-iT . SOCIETY e S SOCIETY VOL XICU . . .
