July 6 to 16 saw the USS DENNIS J, BUCKLEY engaged in gunfire support mis --1 .1 Q sions in the Il Corps Area of South Vietnam, Several years ago names like Qui Nhon and Aha Trang seemed like infant babble. Now' they had more significant meanings. The gun line meant port and starboard Watches. For six hours the bridge, CIC ,' Gun Mount and Plotting Room personnel would fire missions then try to get a few hours sleep While their reliefs replaced them for the mission. After each mission gun crews policed brass. Many lost weight, as more than 3,000 rounds had-to be stacked. The gunner's mate on the line was Chief Gladden Whose tender loving care of his ' guns made the extensive firing schedule possible.
