a nervous breakdown Sylvla also related to us that Helen probably had been too modest to tell us about her Z 000 acre farm and that she was ra1s1ng a herd of cows fHolste1nsl The day before Helen had rece1ved a large order of orange trees from Florlda and had to hurry home and start plantmg them As we left the hosp1tal a Mercury drove up m front and we dxscovered that xt was the former Joyce Klopfenstem We hurrxed to her car bexng very happy to see her She told us that she had seen Helen and she had told her of our arrxval 1n town We all went to supper where we could talk over old t1mes Joyce related that she had gone to Iowa Wesle yan College and played basketball and then played on the AAU team for four years She had won several trophxes and recogn1t1on by the leadxng newspapers She also xnformed us that Carol Smoot had been makxng headlmes 1n the sports world also Carol was now the Natxonal Bobsled Rxder 1n the Olympxcs and was also quxte a trophy catcher Whlle we were d1n1ng a group of bus1nessmen came 1n and among them was another old class mate Howard Schrader We haxled hmm to our table and dlscovered he was the boss of Sleep No More tablets company Howard xnformed us that he st1ll sleeps every chance he gets whether at home or m the off1ce He related to us that one of hxs employees was marrxed to one of our former classmates Rose Mary Rxce but that he had been called 1n the 'N my Rose was traxelllng whcrcx er hw. was stat1oned,and was really en-Joyxng be1ng a sa1lor's wlfe It was gettxng late so Joyce dropped us off at our hotel In the lounge we notxces some one who looked very fam1l1ar and we fxnally recognxzed her as bexng Donna Rxchers Donna sald that she was staymg here overnxght whxle on her tour Of course we asked what sort of work she was domg and learned that she was go1ng to servlcemens hospxtals and entertamxng by smngmg and dancxng She was also entertalnlng at the U S O 's and was en-Joymg lt very much Donna told us that Beverly W1lson had marrled a m1l11ona1re and that she was about to embark on a round the world cruxse We were very sleepy so we retxred to our room for a good nxghts sleep We awoke the next mornxng and adapted ourselves to gettlng ready to catch the plane to head homeward We haxled a mxdget tax1 and when we xnqulred about 1ts streamllne de sxgmng the drlver sa1d that a lady had designed lt We asked Lf xt could be a glrl by the name of Marlys Stafford desxgnxng mxdget cars sxnce her graduatlon and had the speed 1est one goxng After arrxvmg at the axrport we went to the mformatxon desk where a very attractxve gxrl sat She sm1led and we recogmzed xt as belonglng to Sh1rley Chapman Shlrley told us that she l1ked her posxtlon very well because she could meet lots of people As we start ed to board the plane a very dxstlnqulshed and nxce lookmg servxceman w1th a lady follow1ng hlm came down the steps We dlscovered lt was Rex Norton husband of our former class mate Marjorle Norton We chatted wlth Rex and Marge for a few moments and learned that Rex was now Captaln Marge had been worklng as an axr stewardess and was takmg a months vacatxon 'lhe plana motor started so we hurrxed on up the steps to fly home to our posxtlons I Irene Jones as owner of the telev1s1on statlon 1n Davenport where my daughter Jenn1fer 1s MC on Names the Same program I Janette Manny as smger 1n one of the fashmnable mghtclubs xn Molme and I Helen Johnson as head of the J I Case Co m Bettendorf We have had a very memorable tr1p and when our new '73 Cadxllacs are broken 1n we w11l drxve down to our home graduat1ng town next txme Irene Jones Janette Manny Helen Johnson Howard Schrader Frank Ruschxll 25 1 1 1 - . 1 . , Q , . . - 1 . 1 . 1 Q ' - , . 11 an ' ' 1 1 1 1 liar. -s H- , , -s ,- , , '. Class Prophecy After becomlng homeslck for our graduation town we declded to take a cru1se down the MISSISSIPPI and Skunk Rxvers to Denmark's sceruc harbor formerly Bmdgeport As we walked 1nto the spacxous and beautxful dxnxng room of the luxury l1ner a fam1l1ar laugh reached our ear Lookxng around we saw the former Judy Hamm and her sa1lor husband seated at a nearby table After chattxng wxth her old memorles came back and we were more anx1ous than ever to reach Denmark At the dock wa1t1ng for us 1n h1s new Roadmaster who should It be but Frank Ruschxll now owner of the R1 st ull Roadmaster Plant As we stopped at the Hotel Denmark we saw Jack Berry commg through the corrxdor He lnformed us that he was now p1tcher for the DENMARK GOLD SOCKS who had just reached the headllnes by h1s showmanshlp of left hand pxtchlng After restlng ln our room we declded to take a walk through the spacxous c1ty of Den mark As we passed one of the fashxonable restaurants we experxencecl a sudden pang of hunger whxch dxrected our path through the door As the entertaxnment started we glanc ed up and to our great surprxse saw D1x1e Odell the Rhumba Queen of the M1ddle West After her dance we made our way to her dresslng room She expressed her surprxse upon seexng old classmates and 1mmed1ately began conversmg on former class members e learned through Dxxme that Donna Pfaff had replaced the ret1r1ng J Edgar Hoover as head of the FBI D1x1e also mformed us that she had seen the Presldent elect sxttmg 1n the audl ence Jxm Rusch11l youngest man to take over the pres1dency of the Un1ted States was back w1th h1s w1fe the former Mary R1ley As we emerged from backstage we located thelr table and went over to chat a wh1le Mary mformed us she was lookxng for some drapery materlal wxth whlch to redecorate the Wh1te House When we kxdded them about who'd run the Wh1te House durxng thexr absence J1m replxed Oh Todd w1ll handle thxngs We asked xf he by any chance meant Cllnton Todd and upon further quest1on1ng we learn ed that Clxnton was the amd of the Wh1te House bemg Secy of Transportatmon Havxng so many thlngs to do and places ln mlnd we proceeded on our way As we gay lng Bruz1t1s' Fashlons and Models Knowxng that John had 11ked gxrls an awful lot back xn the days of Denmark Hxgh we thought surely th1s must be the same Bruzxtls we knew We journeyed 1n and asked to see the owner The store was even larger than Marshall Fxelds and flnally were led mto a large roomful of glrls One of them looked over at us and flashed a b1g smlle She looked very attractxve ln her bathxng su1t and who should lt be but Patsy McCoy She told us that she had marrxed and had two lxttle tots but was go lng on w1th her career of modelmg sw1m suxts and sweaters She was gomg to Par1s the next week where she 'd appear as 'the real McCoy on a fash1on show Seexng that she was very busy we proceeded to look for the owner About f1ve mlnutes later we detected hmm and of course we surprlsed h1m He related to us that Dxck Fr1tz was natlonal um plre 1n the World Serxes and basketball referee durxng the wmter months As we stepped out 1nto the street an ambulance went screechxng by so be1ng 1nqu1s1t1ve as we were and anx1ous to see the new hosp1tal anyway we halled a taxl Hurry1ng up the steps and through the corr1dor we bumped 1nto another famxllar face Helen Holsteen She told us that whxle she was there they had brought Raymond Watk1ns ln to have hxs stom ach pumped out It seemed as though he had tasted one of hxs chemlcal concoctlons that he had been formulatmg for one of h1s chemxstry classes at the Umversxty of Denmark and xt had made hxm deathly slck Helen saxd she had come to v1s1t Sy1v1a so we went to the Supervlsors offxce and found the lettenng on the door read1ng Sylv1a Roscum RN and Head Supervlsor ' We casually walked 1n and wlthout lookmg up she sa1d Your p1lls wxll be ready ln a mm mm Glanclng up and lookmg at us 1n amazement she exclalmed Oh I thought you were Mlss Morton I m sorry' She was very glad to see us and when we quest1oned her 1f she meant Elsxe Morton she saxd that Els1e was a teacher now and had had such a t1me w1th her puplls that she had to take pxlls because she was on the verge of Z4 vs 2 ' . . . . 1 - ' .
