Fans celebrate Sherman Week Sherman week started and ended as one of the best ever in Denison. The jackets beat Sherman 36 - 6 and most of all kept the axe! Sherman week started out Monday with hats off to the jackets and everyone wore a hat to salute the jackets. Tues- day was sock it to the Bearcats and everyone wore their most colorful socks to show their spirit. Wednesday was turn Sherman inside out with everyone wearing their clothes inside-out. Thurs- day was put Sherman in the shade and everyone turned out with some real- ly great sunglasses. Friday was the original color day with everything from black-n-gold faces to the traditional black-n-gold clothing. Stingerettes dance it up, show style By Mary jo Martin The team of excellence reall danced it up this year when the rou performed at the football games, pep rallies, anfbaslgetball games. During the summer the members practiced at Golden Rule gym to make all their dances and routines the best. The group started practice in August and worked from 7 a.m. until noon each day. At the end of the summer the old members initiated the new members of the group, and took them around town and to the mall. This year 50 girls are on the team. The team attended camp in july at Kilgore junior Colle e, where they learned new routines and com- petecF with teams from other high schools. The members won five medals, a sweepstakes trophy, and three first place trophies in jazz, milita , and highkick. This is the first time in ten years lhat the group has won a first in a highkick routine. The members of the highkick routine were Denise Burden, Caroyln Crenshaw, Kim Fulenchk, Rachel Hill, lodi janovec, Marla jones, Leslie Lester, Mary lo Martin, Thelma Wilson, Karen Weissenborn and Angie Wynn. The jazz routine was performed by all senior members of the drill team. The officers this year were captin, jennifer Hysmithg head lieutenant, Thelma Wilson, Ist lieutenants were Carolyn Crenshaw, and Tracey Smith, 2nd lieutenants were Rebecca Terry, and Tisha Robinson. The direc- tor is Mrs. Darlene Willoughby. WHEW! WHAT A WORKOUT - Rebecca Terry takes a breather while Keary Souther, right, keeps working out in the morning during summer practice. 22 Activities , I BUILD THAT SPIRIT UP - Stintgerettes build a split pyramid to ' song Californa Girls . The rill team performs at every assembly.
