As Texas celebrates her 150th birth- day, Denison schools claim a footnote in the history of education. McDaniel is the site of the first graded free public school in the state. Early Denison settlers gave land and buildings dedicated to educating the youth of the community. They realized, as current citizens do, that the future of the country rests in the young people and their educational preparation to assume their roles as decision makers. The Spirit Continues 7
