Organizafions and Clubs Gef Underway The first days of school were busy as expected and it is this time that the clubs and organizations get started with election of officers and sweethearts, and discussions of plans for upcoming activities they will be involved in during the school year. There are approximately 50 clubs at Denison High, ranging in many different interests , so everybody can be part of a group. Denison Hi h Welcomes New Teachers Mrs. Sue McCork1e, below, is one of the new teach- ers at DHS this year. She attended Oklahoma State University majoring in home economics. She received a Bachelors' and Masters' Degree in Sci- ence at East Texas State. She teaches homemaking. Other new faculty members include Athletic Direc- tor Jerry Blankenship, Mr. Rod Carter, Mr. Danny Craver, Mr. Lester Fleming, Miss Jane Overstreet, Mr. Duke Sparks and returning to senior high was Mr. Fred Postier. Mrs. Oline Barker was new in the office this year. G? August Mr. Rex Breed, left, is a new math teacher here. He was formerly on the staff at McDaniel Ir. High. Mr. Breed is a 1962 Paris, Arkansas, graduate. He has a Bachelor of Science from Arkansas Tech. He has a major in P.E. and a minor in math. He teaches FOM11 and Intro. Alg. 11. g eff. iff? A Mr. Rick Coulter, a 1968 graduate of Denison High is a new biology teacher. After high school he spent 2 years at G.C.C. and majored in biology. From there he went to East Texas State. He was drafted into the service, but later came back to finish school. He worked in industrial work but decided that teaching is more challenging AND interesting.

Jaokefs Coaches Hold Press Day The Denison High School Coaching Staff invited the news media to Munson Stadium for an open press conference with both the coaches and the players August 21. The team was asked their opinions and expectations on the coming season. All of the coaches and players were optimistic about the Jackets' chances for a successful year. Group and individual pictures were taken. City and school newspaper photographers made pictures of the players as did the Yellow Jacket Annual photographer. 28 Sports Players Improve wifh Praofioe As the days passed, the Jackets learned to work more easily together as a team. The Jackets downed a strong team in scrimmage this month adding a sense of pride and accomplishment to Jacket spirit. The coaches took the experi- ence gained during this month to pull the team closer together. The coaches worked on defensive togetherness and offensive quickness in preparation for the next pre-dis- trict game against Trinity-Euless.
