Vocational Courses Give Job Training information, write news stories, edit newspaper make-up, and write headlines. Photography emphasizes basic camera skills, negative processing, print making, toning, mounting, and picture evaluation. Printing students learn how to operate the letterpress, paper drill, folder, stitcher, and paper cutter. Student publications include the Stinger and Yellow Jacket Yearbook. The Stinger is Steve Morrow awaits his stock rating from the judges during the livestock show (a). Mr. Phil Haddock (b) teaches drafting earned a B.S. fromSSC. Mr. A. F. Variety of Industrial Courses Offered DHS offers its students a wide variety of career courses. These courses give students information about their future professions. Students work at a health field job for as much as one-half day and attend health occupation class one period a day. Jobs include doctor's office assistant, nurse’s aide, medical laboratory assistant, and dental assistant. Journalism is a study of news media fields. Students interview and gather Tim Brown and Keith Powell varnish a gun cabinet for exhibition in the Arts and Crafts Fair (a). Mrs. Siv Anderson (b) teaches health occupations and is a registered nurse. Mrs. Kay Casey (c) teaches journalism, photography, and student publications. She earned her B. A. at Austin College. Mrs. Ruth Christian (d) has her M. S. and M. Ed. from SSU and U. of H., and teaches Homemaking I and II. Mr. Osburn Davis (e) earned a B.S. and M.Ed. - NTSU and teaches bookkeeping, record keeping, and coaches golf. Mr. Arthur Farrier (f) teaches metal trades. He earned his B.S. and M. S. from O. a weekly newspaper published by students who have been enrolled in journalism their junior year. The Yellow Jacket Annual is the yearbook published by junior and senior students. Homemaking classes include home management, bachelor home management, child development, Homemaking I, II, and III. These courses teach the students marketing, Mary Welch, Debbie Haskins, and Phyllis Barnes perform the installation for VICA cosmetology (a). Building trades finished their house for this year and had open house May 25 (b). Mr. Charles Knight (c) industrial department head, teaches vocational agriculture. He earned his B.S. and Ag.Ed. from Texas A M. Mrs. Elayne Preston (d) teaches cosmetology and attended ETSU. Mr. James Milligan (e) teaches machine woodwork.
