Math Courses Prepare Students for Future ▲ a Courses are chosen according to students' future plans. Those interested in pure mathematics or in engineering, medicine, and science fields select from physics, elementary analysis, and trigonometry after completing algebra and geometry. Fundamentals of math provide basic instruction for other students who do not have plans for career requiring higher math. Three math teachers joined the staff this year. Mrs. Sara Davis (B.S. - education - NTSU) teaches geometry and fundamentals of math (c). Mrs. Barbara Peterson (B.A. - math, B.S. - education -UT) teaches introductory Algebra II (d). Mrs. Patsy Phelps (B.S. - LSU) leaches math lab. Mr. John Gardner (f) department head, (B.S. - SOSU). Mr. Gardner showed his culinary talents cooking a spaghetti dinner for bachelor homemaking (b). He teaches physics, elementary analysis, trigonometry, and Algebra II. Mr. David Kenny (g) teaches algebra and math fundamentals. (B.S., M.S. - education; M.S. - math - SOSU) (a) Mr: . w Directing students on rules of various games such as basketball, volleyball, baseball, tennis, and football are responsibilities of physical education teachers and coaches. A new girls athletics class has been added to the physical education program. Miss Gail Ringness will coach the girls. Health classes learn the different diseases, how the human body functions, and how to keep a healthy body. Health students take a physical fitness test if they are not enrolled in a P.E. class. Miss Gail Ringness (b), teaches P.E., health, and coaches tennis. She has a B.S. - Mary Hardin -Baylor, M.A. - ETSU. Coach Tim Williams, basketball, English. He earned a B.S. from ETSU. Mrs. Darlene Willoughby (d), teaches health, Drill Team. She has a B.S. - SSU, M.S. - ETSU. !◄ n Projects Enrich Study Science classes involve a variety of subject review. Students become involved in experiment and research projects. Group work and guest speakers enrich the class. Basic biology is the science of life and living matter of all forms. Physical science surveys chemistry, astronomy, and geology. Biology 1 consists of four parts (1) the nature of Life, (2) ecological relationships and genetics, (3) classification of plants and animals, and (4) the biology of man. Biology 11 is basically a laboratory course which requires laboratory activity beyond the regular school day. Students are selected in the ninth grade for the honor Biology 1 and 11 class, a two hour course taken the junior year. It is part of a comprehensive science program for students planning a science profession. Mrs. John Terry, chairman, (B.A.; M. A. - Austin College) teachers Biology I and 11 (c). Mr. James Rowland (B.S., M.S. - SOSU) teaches chemistry and physical science (d). Mr. David Henry (B.S., biology, P.E.; M.S. - zoology, botany - ETSU) teaches biology and physical science (e). Mr. Bill Day (M.S. - Central Michigan U) teaches basic biology. Tommy Miller stocks new equipment (a), while Bettye McKean, Holt Chesshir, and Shawna Ruff perform a chemistry experiment (b).
