Counselors Schedule Classes Counselors help students make credit choices with careful planning. Providing students with information and help on understanding what credits are, the different types offered, and how many and what types are required for graduation are benefiting duties of counselors. Also, information on loans and grants for college and entrance tests is available. Mrs. Karen Hopkins (c), has a B. A., M.Ed. - ETSU. Mr. Ige Stevens (d), has a B.S., M. A. - USM. Library Aids Students 7500 books and 58 regular magazine subscriptions are only a few aids the high school library offers. Turntables with ear phones enable students to listen to records, supplementing study or making up work. Audio visual equipment available includes overhead projectors, film strip projectors, slide projectors, tape recorders, and a camera and slide making kit. Comfortable chairs, carpeting, air conditioning, and artificial greenery contribute to a pleasant atmosphere where tables provide room for group study and individual study carrolls give students a quiet place to read and study. Each student has a library number for checking out books. Mrs. Bernice Irby (a) is shown organizing the cards. David Spindle, Eric Warner, and Joe Smith (b) make use of the library to do assignments. Mrs. Mildred Doyle puts magazines in order so that when fast reference is needed it is available to the students (c) . Mrs. Irby (d) earned B.S. and Master of Teaching degrees from Southeastern State College. Mrs. Doyle (e) earned a B.S.E. from the University of Arkansas and Masters of Library Science. 18 - Academics

Fine Art Students Develop Talent Student art work is exhibited throughout the year in the display windows at school and in downtown banks during Public School Week. Art material ranging from water colors to ceramic molds enable students to express themselves. Band attends contests and competes with bands in Dallas and bands from different states at the Greater Southwest Music Festival. The band brought home their share of contest honors for DHS. Vocal music talents are developed by the chorus classes including girls chorus and the select choir, Hanson's Headaches. History and development of the theater, survey of dramatic literature, and involvement with the interpretations of character through acting comprise drama classes. Mr. Roger Hanson (c), department head, teaches choral music, he has an M. Ed. and a B. M. - ETSU. Mrs. Sylvia McBrayer(d), teaches drama, speech, and English, she has a B. A. - SSU. Mrs. Dorothy Richardson (e), teaches art, she has a B.A. - H.P., H.S., H.S. - T.C. , SSU. Mr. Jesse Riddle (f), band director, has a B.S., M.Ed. - ETSU, SSC. Mr. Eldon Sonnenburg (g), assistant band director, B.M., M.M. - NTSU. Donna Bratton, Jeannine Stiles, Mike Lewis, and Brent Cox perform in the Childrens' Play presented by the drama students (a).
