'ponecowicC Each year as the doors of DHS are opened to hundreds of students, the facilities of the school are opened to the students for use. They enter to find a well-kept school that offers scholastic advancement, literary development, physical training, opportunity to participate or become leaders in activities, vocational training, fidelity to school and country, and social expansion. Our school provides the facilities for each student to grow to his fullest capacity. At DHS the extent of gain by the student depends upon the individual use he makes of these facilities. The 1960-61 Yellow Jacket Yearbook Staff has had the privilege of working with these facilities at our command to fashion a book of memories for you, the student of DHS. We present this Yearbook to you, the leaders of tomorrow, in appreciation of your enthusiastic co-operation. s4cCvt4 Vi4 s4ctcvitce4 'Pe y«taCctce s4t£Cetic s4cCve'tft4e Ke tt 3 02Oe T oictt 02Vit l 'P'Ucte • • - (From Notional Merit Scholarship Results) Sc toCa4ttc s4ctv z tce te tt 4 'Detnocnatic O ccufratiMot £xfreni€ u 9 oyal 'Devotion 10 SacitiC Ttie dedicate t£ic fo one cue 6oid t t 6iy ie i t ecteertt Miss Mildred Walker for her deep sense of responsibility and dedicated service to the students of Denison High School. Baseball With the combination of the returning lettermen and the rookies out for their first high school baseball, the baseball team started its training the first of March. For the past few years the baseball team has been fairly successful, but the boys expected to improve considerably this year. They practiced every afternoon to improve their pitching, running, and batting averages. By improving their athletic abilities through baseball, they should be able to win more games and rate a higher standing in the district. Tennis The tennis team made a good showing against its opponents. The boys won many of their games and lost by only a close margin to the best in the state in the Cotton Bowl Tournament. They played two practice matches at Southeastern. This practice gave the team a chance to show up against stiff competition. D. Lee Miller, Ronnie Melton, Bill Knight, Mike Porter, Chester Walker, and Arthur Phillips will form the nucleus of the team next year. Before that time they played the teams of as many of the district schools and other outlying towns as was possible. The boys worked out every afternoon to keep in training. This was done during the sixth period when they used the golf facilities of the Rod and Sun and the Woodlawn Country Clubs. These boys received PE credit for playing golf.
