Our modern Navy is a highly mobile, flexible instrument of foreign policy. It helps promote peace and stability throughout the free world, and is always 'ready to defend our country or those of our allies against aggression. Typical of these forces are the units which make up the U.S. Sixth Fleet. The Sixth Fleet consists of 50 to 60 ships including Carrier Task Groups, striking forces, and amphibious forces deployed to the Mediterranean Sea. It is mobile and flexible enough to wage limited or full-scale conventional or nuclear war anywhere in southern Europe, the middle East, or North Vital to the co of this mighty fleet are the services the Servi Fleet. Like the other units of Force is made up of Atlantic e p lo y e d to the Mediterranean , stores ships, tenders and and r services. Supplies of f eep steaming are transferred at of being entirely independent of s of time that the fleet is immobile, XX DENEBOLA provi ighi Shi Q services. It is said that an army travels on its stomac is true of a navy also. The Sixth Fleet daily consumes some 24,000 pounds of meat, 19,000 pounds of potatoes, 100,000 cups of coffee, and 17,000 loaves of bread. Most of this food is brought to the Sixth Fleet by the Reefers, the refrigerated provisions stores ships. DENEBOLA is one of six of these in the Atlantic Fleet. She deploys to the Mediterranean for periods of about two months each Qas well as making other shorter deployments in support of our forces in the Caribbean areal.
