THE ANLELRICAN JUNIOR RED caoss Officers President - Melvin Warthan Vice President - Thomas Bradshaw Secretary - Myrtle Goodrich Sponsor - Mrs. Hux and Mrs. Burrow The Junior Red Cross was first organized in Q Dendron High School in 1942 for the purpose of developing a sense of responsibility and helpful- ness among the pupils of Dendron toward children of other lands. It is a great help in developing handicraft in woodwork, sewing and painting. It is also of great assistance to the American Chapter of the Red Cross. The past year and the preceding years have shown us that pupils of our school are loyal and charitable. Our membership is lOOZ. Of this per cent all cooperate willingly and promptly. When we were called upon to send gifts for the wounded and convalescent of McQuire General Hospital we received and sent 50 gifts. We contributed 35.00 to the National Children's Fund to aid in the care of the sick, homeless and parentless children at home as well as in the war torn countries of Europe and Asia. W We filled our quota of Educational Gift boxes with a feeling of deep sincerity in knowing that we could be of help to the needy and helpless. Mrs. Garland Spratley, Chairman of Surry County Chapter of Red Cross called upon us to entertain the sailors at Claremont. Under the supervision of Mrs. Thurman Williams, we arranged a very interesting and entertaining musical pro- gram. After the program sandwiches and coffee were served and later on all enjoyed dancing. The Junior Ped Cross is proud to say that it has aided people of this confused war torn world. We, the students of Dendren High School, have performed our duty in making the men who fought for us more cheerful and in securing better international relationship through indirect con- tact with the people of worn torn countries. x. y'3 be ft X
