(Dutch Corner) Goodevening, this is Herald Flash Kunning at Station WDHS, largest broadcast- ing station of the universe, relaying to you the spectacular events of the Silver Anni- versary of our great, gorgeous leader, Rena Post. We are standing by waiting for her Excellencie to appear on the balcony of her gigantic White Wind -Mill Palace to give a few words of encouragement to the throngs of people gathered below waiting in anxious anticipation for their chance to see the Queen on this her 25th year as Supreme Ruler of the United States of New Holland. Our TV cameras are moving in now. They have received word that Her Graciousness has summoned the Palace Trumpeteers, Larry Blankenbaker and Tim Belstra, to sound the fanfare for her entrance. She is being showered with tulips from the ecsta- tically exuberant crowd as Colonel Marvin Moolenaar of the Palace Guard hands her the bouquet of 25 red and white, long-stemmed tulip s. Flash says, You now see your gracious leader approaching the speaker ' s plat- form. She raises her lilly -white hand to still the crowd. As she opens her mouth to present her speech, a ringing shot rings out, and the President-ress flops to the floor, stone dead!!!! !!! With one accord, the throng bursts into tears. For ten long seconds, they cry and sob and blubber and blither. Over the air -waves one can hear the sorrow cracked voice of Flash , Our beloved Leader is dead!! And not to bring you up on the events leading up to this tragic day- -As you well remember, 25 years ago, on this same eventful day, our late, beloved leader was brought to the big city, poor and dishevell- ed, by Sandy Hanford and Shirley Jacobsma ' s uptown shuttle service. Immediately she went in search of council- -to see her old friends Father Paul (DeYoung) and Sister Barbara (Kamminga). They advise her to seek employment by going to the Wooden Shoe Bar (owned by Tom Me Kim and Gary Woudema) to find Barb Bakker, who spends most of her leisure time there (after all, a Rice” paddy overseer is a dry job). Upon entering the bar, our late first lady sees several unscrupulous characters such as the local dope hustler and card shark, Allen Kampenga, and his three raving- beauty attendants, can -can dancers, Jo Ann Swart, Linda Kikkert, and Connie Whit- more. Stepping up to the bar she asks, Are YOU Barb Bakker????????? Naw, I ain ' t, kain ' t ya see that fer yer own sulf? says Mary, the muscrat trapper, Ramsey. Next, she stumbles across a dishevelled body heaped on the floor, and in passing, she asks, Have you seen Barb Bakker? The dishevelled heap, in the form of Earl Zylstra, answers, Arghhhhhhhh. Dejected, Rena walks away thinking, My, but he looked like a vulture! Dashing past is a familiar figure --the town fat, slob, playboy Albert Hamstra, who is presently chasing Linda (Girlie) Henrichs. Striking up a conversation with Ralph Myers was in the bag, for Ralph, the new owner of the Hillside Lanes, is really on the ball. She thought he would have information right up her alley so she pinned him down. Getting nothing out of Ralph, she approaches the bar maid, Karen Evers, as a last resort. Karen spouts, Whatta ya ' ave, Sweets? 78 Caught off guard, pure Rena unknowingly orders a drink, Oh, anything will do. (thinking on the lines of goat ' s milk, sasparilla, or a sugar-free diet beverage --to keep her slim figure). Rena guzzles down her drink in two quick gulps. Instantaneous- ly, as if touched by the hand of an unseen spirit, Rena becomes smashed out of her mind (tanked). Noticing this, two unscrupulous purse snatchers, Kathy Sipkema and Edith Van Schepen, creep stealthily to her side. Rena begins to spout her troubles to her new-made friends. Being taken in by her ridiculous sob story, the two decide to help our past leader by taking her to their home As they make their way from the bar, the distant cries of Janis DeFries, the town crier, can be heard, HEAR YE, HEAR YE, Enny meany, Chilly beany, THE MOUTH’ is about to speak, ' Elections for the President will be held tomorrow! ' That ' s what I ' ll do, I ' ll run for President! says Rena in an inebriated way. The next day, bright and early, the local milk man, Larry Hanfor, awakens them. Rena, still pickled from last night, makes her way to the local voting parlor in Stan- ley Zeck ' s Furnace Repair Shop. There due to her intoxicated state, she stumbles haplessly, headlong and bashes herself head-first into the single (local) voting ma- chine. The local machine (played by Roger DeYoung) assumes this action to be an aggressive advance, and begins recording billions upon zillions of votes for his new- found mate. Naturally, as you know, our beloved Rena wins overwhelmingly by one local vote (her own). Five weeks later, still in a stupor, Rena takes her oath of office, It was soon discovered that when she came out of her cesspool of depravity. she was no longer the sweet, loveable, innocent, pure, honest, beautiful, slob she once was--she be- came transformed into a wicked, tyrannical, horrendous entity that assumed dicta- torial powers on the whole universe. (In other words, she was not a very nice person, at all)!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For example, she filled her court, with such subserviant souls as Larry DeVries for her court wizzard, Ronnie Musch for her etiquette consultant, and Albert Oezer for the local Super Hero--but her first mistake was appointing Rick, the Fish, Mar- shal as the court jester. Little did she know that he was actually the leader of a sub- version to overthrow her. As if that wasn ' t enough, she also appointed Dorothy Tesky as leader of her Royal Wooden-Shoe Mounties and Janet Eakin as her trusted Palace Chef. Not only did Dorothy completely disarm the Wooden Shoes, but Janet was a lousy cook. Flash catches his breath and continues, As you well know, just last week, our Presidentress had her most distinguished visitor, the fabulously wealthy Maharaja of Raunchipoor- -Roger Walstra and his Harem (including his favorite, Rita Luzadder). You also remember how, during his Raunchiness ' s visit, the two spies for this sub- versive overthrow, who posed as friends of the deceased, Chief spy Teresa Williams, acting as Rena ' s sweet, trustworthy, loving, ever -faithful, lovey-dovey, holdy-handy chamber maid, collected and gathered secret information and gave it to her go-be- tween, Randy Moore, who made good use of his running ability to speedily speed it to their 67 .star -general, Joe Compton (the 67 is symbolic of Joe ' s stupendously, colossal waste ' line). Flash flashes, And now back to the present What does Flash mean, And now back to the present??????? What lies ahead????????????? Is this the end?????? To find out, turn to the third page from the back. 79 LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT I, BETTE WALSTRA, will my can of hair spray to Rusty Lovell. TELL HIM NOW If with pleasure you are viewing any work a man is doing, If you like him or you love him, tell him now; Don ' t withhold your approbation ' til the person makes oration As he lies with snowy lilies o ' er his brow; For no matter how you shout it, he won ' t really care about it; He won ' t know how many tear drops you have shed- If you think some praise is due him, now ' s the time to slip it to him, For he cannot read his tombstone when he ' s dead! More than fame and more than money is the comment kind and sunny, And the hearty warm approval of a friend; For it gives to life a savor, and it makes you stronger, braver, And it gives you heart and spirit to the end; If he earns your praise, bestow it; if you like him, let him know it. Let words of true encouragement be said; Do not wait til life is over and he ' s underneath the clover, For he cannot read his tombstone when he ' s dead! -Anonymous GENERAL BUILDING CONTRACTORS READY MIX CONCRETE Building Supplies Phone: 987-2800 DeMotte, Indiana COMER’S AIRCRAFT SERVICE Major and Minor Repair Rental and Instruction Complete Aircraft and Engine Service Rensselaer, Indiana PARR ELEVATOR INC. You used to shoot me down Flash continues, standing high above us on the balcony is the commanding figure of that very person --General Joe! He opens his mammoth mouth, and once again a hush falls over the awe stricken crowd. These are his words, We ' ve done it! The revolution is complete!!!!! Back to Flash, And, with one accord, the crowd goes wild. They realize the err of their ways, and taking off their wooden shoes, begin tossing them joyfully into the air --thus killing several on -lookers including two members of the Wooden Shoe Mount ies- -Roger Davis and Tom Martin. Once again the roar lulls as the General announces the arrival of our new leader- - The Dream Boy of 1967 --wonderfully marvelous, handsome, debonair, intelligent, perfect, groovy, and overwhelmingly humble Steve Zeck ! ! ! ! ! He speaks, Hi ho there ecstatically exuberant fans! Fall down and worship me on you knees and hands. Excelsior and scooby-doo! I am here to rule o ' er you! You luckies. !!!!! As the sun slowly sits in the west, we see Bette (Walstra) Schreiber roaring up in her ' 67 Edsel Hearse to carry off the bodies of Roger Davis, Tom Martin and What ' s Her Name Post, too. (To amuse the crowd, Bette does a number of fancy driving tricks: turning 14 Katies,” then going into a triple mid-air summersault and finishing with a two wheel death -defying suicide. ) THE END 134 CLASS OF 1930 ROW I: Marcia Swart, Evelyn DeKoker, Frances Flockelburg, Elsie Terpstra, Leona Kooy, Eliza- beth Sipkema, Grace DeHaan.
