As We Turn The Pages Of Life A New Chapter Unfolds” What a most fitting motto for a graduating class to present. This is a time when all phases of life are being carefully scrutinized. People are asking, Is it worth while? and Does it pay? ' Even such a thing as universal education in this land of democracy is being questioned. Education today calls for thinking, for thinking things through. Education today is a tool of progress, for both tne individual and for the gr oup or nation. If we curtail education, we automatically retard progress. The progress of individuals makes for the progress of the nation. The ideas of Edison and men of his ability develop the entire world. If any nation is to make progress in science, art, music, commerce, trade, invention, industry, or government, education must not only be universal but must be progressive. The average American must not only be fitted for living, but he must do his part in advancing civilization. What does education mean to the graduate of 1964? I am quite certain that it means tools of progress in your hands. You will take these tools and with them you will build your lives. You will find your place in your home, your community, and your nation, for you have that training which fits you for leadership and cooperative labors. America needs just such young men and women as are graduating from our schools today, not only to lay down their lives, but to live in the fullness and richness their training merits. Not all can or will be Edisons, but all can and will use the inventions that genius gave the world and the use to which his inventions are directed may revolutionize civilization. So seniors, you are turning a most important page in your life. A new chapter is unfolding. Will it be a chapter of progress? Progress that will contribute to you and society, or will it be a chapter of defeat and chaos? ’he decision is yours!
