Zke Keen Keener of 1962 VOLUME XXVII PUBLISHED BY THE SENIOR CLASS DEMOTTE HIGH SCHOOL DEMOTTE, INDIANA We, the Senior Class, wish to express our appreciation to everyone purchasing advertisements, thus making this annual possible . DeMotte School Our 1962 School Year Honor Students 1962 Sharyl Sipkema, Bob Hanaway, Kenneth Ooms, Lewis Mann, Jody De Young, Lenore Boms. IT IS WORTH WORKING FOR The honor students are those who have the highest grade-point standing in the senior class. The points are figured on all grades each student earns beginning with the freshman year and end- ing with the first semester of the senior year. From this group the valedictorian and salutatorian honors will be figured at the end of the senior year. This year ' s honor students ' grades figure to a B plus average with some nearing an A minus average. Student Council The Student Council has sponsored several activities during the current school year. One of their first projects was a dress-up day held in October. Various members have done baby-sitting at PTA meetings so that parents might attend the meetings. The entire council presented a humor- ous style show at the November PTA meeting. The same style show was also presented to the stu- dent body of Wheatfield High School. A suggestion box has been placed in the Hission Memorial in which students have placed many worth-while suggestions and project ideas. The council has taken action on some of these projects and will be working on them for the remainder of the school year. The Christmas program and party were sponsored by the council and took a great deal of pre- paration and planning. This included decoration of the cafeteria and tree, name drawing by classes for the gift exchange, program planning, and securing and distributing refreshments. The council has also sponsored the assembly programs this year. Senior Class Officers Time: July 12, 1982 Place: Three Miles East of De Motte Population: 4,568,963 Event: The World ' s Fair As we entered the gates to the World ' s Fair, and walked to the ticket box, who should be selling tickets but Gene Flanaway. After talking with Gene for a few minutes, we discovered that he had married Catherine Swart, a former classmate of ours. Gene said she hasn ' t changed and is still her talkative self. We continued walking about the grounds, and we next stopped at the in- formation booth to find the whereabouts of the United States exposition. To our amazement, the ' - • guides were Bob Hanaway and Lenore Borns who directed us to the exposition. Before leaving, we chatted with them for awhile about the good times we had had at D. H. S. As we approached the exposition. Bob Herring, the doorman, opened the door. When we entered, we saw Marilyn Kam- minga and Mona Hunter guiding their classes through the building. As we were reading the infor- mation given, we learned that four of our former classmates, Lewis Holwin, Jody De Young, How- ard Holmes, and Tom Marotta had designed the United States exhibit. From walking around all morning, we became hungry and decided to eat at the famous revolving restaurant in the sky, man- aged by Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Nannenga, the former Sharon Kamminga. As we entered the self- serviced elevator, we came face to face with Wayne Van Vuren, who is the present owner of the Ford Motor Company. Together we went into the restaurant and were greeted by Eileen Hamstra, the hostess, who showed us to our seats. Our order was taken by Joy Berghorst, also a former classmate. As we were talking, she mentioned that the chefs were Gene De Young and Tom Schaefer. Their specialty is rum soaked steak. After a delicious meal we paid our check. The cashier was Miriam Hittle. After paying our check, we proceeded to the amusement park. The first ride we took was on the Bobbs. We purchased our tickets from Bill Vander Molen and climbed in. We noticed that the seat ahead of us was occupied by Jerry Roster and Bill Dyke, who are partners in the K and D Pharmacy. Two minutes later we were carried from our seats, due to speed stroke and were attended by Dr. John Walstra. After he gave us each an aspirin, we quickly recovered and proceeded on our way. We then decided to go on a less strenuous ride. We saw the parachute jump and wanted to try it. We bought our tickets from Dale Bovenkerk, who told us the amusement park was owned by Ken- neth Ooms, whose secretary was Miss Donna Bormann. After we had gone on the jump, we passed a side show, run by Jerry De Young. Next we went to the Monterail DePot. We were told that the Monterail was designed by Dave Peterson, and James Toppen and that the millionariess Sharyl Sipkemd was the owner. As we boarded the Monterail, we recognized two more of our classmates, Sally Vap Meer- ten and Mary Fritts, who were stewardesses. We arrived in town and stopped for gas at Mann ' s Sinclair Service Station. While there we saw Dave Grevenstuk buying gas for his newly designed Grevenstuk Special. After ending a tiring but memorable day, we, Chuck Abbring and Dave Watson, went to our separate homes.
