Juniors Bid Seniors Goodbye At Reception With Theme Fantasy Under The Sea” On May 2, 1959, the Junior class honored the graduating class with a banquet. The theme of the ban- quet was Fantasy Under the Sea. An under-water scene covered the entire north wall of the cafeteria. The center attraction was an old sunken chest lying in the sand and overflowing with sparkling jewels. The false ceiling and walls were made of blue crepe paper. Several kinds of fish hung from the ceiling to give the effect of being under the sea. The Junior mothers provided the guests with a delicious meal served by the Freshmen girls in this Neptune ' s Hideaway. After the feasting, visitors from the bottom of the sea, the Singing Seventeen from St. Joseph Col- lege, entertained by singing several enjoyable selections. To end the evening the sea-farers celebrated with worms (serpentines) and fish eggs (confetti) in a rous- ing swim (grand march) around the sea growth. 1959-60 Harold Holmes-Norma Kaluf 1958-59 Jim Sampson-Judy Zwart Kings and Queens Of Hearts For Four Years 1957-58 Harold Evers-Peggy Groet • Seniors Display Acting Abilities In Class Play LAVENDAR AND OLD LACE Miss Mary Ainslie Connie Koster Jane Hathaway Ruth Kaper Ruth Thorne Judi Nuss Bernice Carlton Norma Kaluf Carl Winfield Ron Eck Sophrony Trotter Ruth Ann Ewart Doctor Howard Patterson Calvin Walstra Hepsey Peggy Groet Joe Pendleton Bob Sipkema James Ball Bob Drudge Athletics Cross Country and Track ROW 1: Charles Abbring, Bill Dyke, Larry Drinski, Jerry Williams, Jim Bunning, Wayne Van Vuren, and Charles Nannenga. Whether the game was won or lost, we saw the varsity play with the spirit and sportsmanship that is a vital part of athletics. Although the Indians had a mediocre season, they won more games than they lost. As the season prog ressed, the boys developed teamwork, respect for each other, and the ability to handle the ball. You will have to get there early to reserve it. I, Jerry Tanis, will my masculine physique to David Hart. Remember: lift those dumbells three times a day. We, Andrew Vander Molen and Lynn Kessinger, will our pipes and Prince Albert Tobacco to Sharon Nannenga and Marilyn Weirs. Keep the home fires burning, girls. May you never work up a sweat. I, Harold Holmes, will my leadership abilities to Larry Durinski. May you be president of the student council. I, Bob Sipkema, will my acting ability to Lorna Odle. You may need a season in the hills to pick up the language. I, Jim Sampson, will my trusty Chevie to Linda Moolenaar. It always breaks down in the most convenient places. I, Joyce Zylstra, will my last position in the alphabet to Rudy Zylstra. Someday, maybe we will be first. We, Sandra Shelhart and Betsy Bol, will our basketball ability in the girls tourney to Judy Post. May you leave as many fingernail marks as we did. I, Jean Van Meerten, will my notorious gift of gab to Joyce Justice. It takes lots of thought and practice. I, Wilma Hittle, will my long blonde hair to Mary Beth Starkey. Remember, a woman’s hair is her best asset. To the Faculty: We give and bequeath to the faculty a sweet and unbroken succession of restful nights and peaceful dreams. Also, we bequeath all the amazing knowledge and star- tling information that we have furnished them from time to time in our various exam- ination papers. We know that much which we have imparted to them in this way must have been entirely new to them. We trust that they will also feel at liberty to make use of all such bits of wisdom and enlightenment for the education of classes to come after us. Signed, sealed, published, and declared as and for our last will and testament by Judi Nuss and Connie Koster. CLASS HISTORY For twelve long years we, the Seniors of 1960 have been working to become part of the DeMotte alumni. We are now close enough that we can see our goal. We began our Freshman year of high school in 1957. We had a membership of 52 at that time. We chose Mr. Tinney as our sponsor. As officers we chose: President, Larry Hoffman; Vice President, Bob Drudge; Secretary, Connie Koster; Treasurer, Ruth Ewart. Bob Hoffman and Betsy Bol represented us in the Student Council. Our heart candidates Bob Sipkema and Connie Koster, were elected as king and queen. There were 47 of us at the beginning of our Sophomore year. We chose Mr. Leslie to guide us through that year. Peggy Groet was elected as our President. Betsy Bol was our Vice President, Bill Van Soest our Secretary, and Larry Hoffman was our Treasurer. Norma Kaluf and Calvin Walstra were our Student Council Representatives. Our heart candidates for king and queen were Peggy Groet and Harold Evers. We again worked very hard and elected them king and queen. Our Junior year began with 50 of us. Our officers were: President, Ruth Ewart; Vice President, Peggy Groet; Secretary, Melodie Grevenstuk; Treasurer, Ruth Kaper. Repre- senting us in the Student Council were Betsy Bol and Larry Hoffman. Mrs. Hoeppner and Mr. Schilling were our sponsors. Our king and queen candidates, Judy Zwart and Jim Sampson, were elected king and queen in spite of close competition. We very appropri- ately chose as our motto The End, Yet the Beginning. In the spring we honored the Seniors with a banquet. Our theme was Fantasy Under the Sea. We are now in our last year of high school. Our officers are: Ruth Ewart, President; Harold Holmes, Vice President; Judi Nuss, Secretary; Ruth Kaper, Treasurer. Norma Kaluf and Harold Holmes are our Student Council Representatives. We will graduate in our class colors, lavender and white. Our class will be the largest that has graduated from D. H. S. This year Mr. and Mrs. Mann are our sponsors. When this last year is completed we will take a trip to Washington, D. C. and New York. We have reached the end of our high school career yet we are just beginning life. In public, Connie? Daddy Cal Dig that bonnet, Judy. Larry in sweeter days!
