Last Will and Testament by Barbara Groet and Elaine Wiers We, the members of the Senior Class of DeMotte High School in the year of nineteen hundred and fifty-six, do hereby declare ourselves to be of sound mind, body and spirit; not being under the influence of any person, drug, or liquor of any kind, do solemnly bequeath these, our most prized and cherished possessions to the undergraduates of DeMotte High School. PART I We, the Senior Class, do hereby bequeath to the Juniors our old Christmas decorations and all the fun we had decorating. We, the Senior Class, do hereby bequeath to the Sophomores our ability to say the wrong thing at the right time. We, the Senior Class, do hereby bequeath to the Freshmen our ability to laugh only at jokes. Mr. Stangle — a new joke book. Mr. Hission — Orderly Senior Class meeting. Mr. Rose — More time to practice the piano. Mr. Jones — Basketball team that can win the Sectional. Mr. Mann — A music class that won’t be interrupted by a fire. Mr. Shreffler — A shop class that likes to draw. Mr. DeGraff — A larger thermos jug to carry more water to school. Mrs. Kroft — A class that can remember what they are to cook. Mrs. Hoeppner — A new radio for the typing room. Miss Rolling — A quiet study hall. PART II I, Marvin Kaluf, bequeath my ability to keep out of trouble to Bill Dyke. Robert Kaper is rather tall. Which aids him in his basketball. He’s 6 feet 3 in stocking feet; He claims his car cannot be beat. He’s in our class; his name is Roy; He is a delightful sort of boy. He’s a halfback on our football team; Kingma’s running is really on the beam. She’s editor of the newspaper staff; She does much work on its behalf. She’s commonly known as Carol Kooy And liked by every girl and boy. Ron Marshall has gained football fame By his running in many a game. He runs the 220 and 100 in track, And in basketball he is no quack. Howard McDaniel, we have him next; He’s known to all his friends as Rex. He has green eyes; his hair is light, And his car is his delight. Mona Nannenga has dark brown hair, And her complexion is very fair; She’s 5 feet 6; her eyes are green; Her singing ability is very keen. Now here comes a Thorton, his first name is Bill, His humorous way will delight you; it will. He likes to play football; he’s good at it, too. And then in his studies, he’s among the top few. Marvin Vander Molen’s rather short, Driving his car is his favorite sport, It is a green ’53 Ford, With his company no one is bored. He has broad shoulders and curly hair, Junior Van Keppel shows no despair His humor is of the boisterous blend. While playing football, he is an end. Bob Van Meeten we meet on the way; He spends most his time with his blue Chev- rolet; He stands 5 feet 10 and has light brown hair, And with his friendly way it’s hard to com- pare. Marilyn Van Wienen is next in the line, Her scholastic achievements are very fine. Her first love’s been music since the day she was born. She plays the piano and also a horn. Ray Nannenga is a fellow who is liked by all; He has great ability to play basketball. He is a friendly and personable type; It’s very rare to hear him gripe. About Mary Scott I shall report She has black hair and is quite short; Her happy smile is contagious; To think bad of her would be outrageous. Here we have a girl named Shirlee; Her hair is black and very curly. Her happy face lacks despair; At school activities she does her share. In the band she plays an alto horn; Her musical talent’s are far from forlorn. Her singing rates among the top few, It’s Janet St. John, I’m referring to. Kathryn Walstra is a fine young lass; She is the annual editor of our class. She has a very sweet disposition; To be a school teacher is her ambition. Elaine Wiers has dark brown hair, And her complexion is quite fair. To be a secretary is her desire. This position, I’m sure she’ll acquire. Alphabetically Bob Zylstra is the last, At distance races he’s seldom passed. At basketball he does quite well, But in cross country he does excel. For 12 long years we’ve labored on And now we’ve reached, of life, the dawn. Each one will go his separate way; We’re on our own now; come what may.
