NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The National Honor Society, composed of students chosen for scholarship. leadership, character and service. had a very active year. Nlembcrs were engaged in such projects as helping in the LYNICEF drive. presenting an Honor Code to the school. holding a dance, averaging grades. listing the honor roll students every six weeks, giving a party for the new members chosen at a formal tapping assembly and initiated in a formal ceremony. At the initiation ceremony l2 juniors and four seniors became new members. Tiny Van Ewijk, the foreign stu- dent. was made an honorary member earlier in the year. The chapter decided the freshman to receive the NHS award would be chosen by the teachers the same way as mernbers of the National Honor Society are chosen. The officers this year were president, Nelson Welch, Jr., vice president, Robby Schurtzg recording secretary, Betty Chatfield: and treasurer, was Cathie Shzgffer. The sponsor this year was Miss Nobia Rector.
