Robertson county ond Deming high school hosted o student from another country. Elino Kris-tiino Wihlman participated in the Youth for Understanding program os on exchange student from Finland. She arrived ot the Greater Cincinnati Airport on August 4, 1985 ond was greeted by her host family, Mr. ond Mrs. Jomes Myron Thomos and children David ond Jomie. She hos o few weeks to settle in ond sight see before beginning the school yeor os o senior or Deming. Elino speaks English fluently os well os her native Finnish. Swedish ond some German. She elected to study French here along with English, American History, Typing ond Adult Living. Elino adjusted to her life here easily os this oreo is similor to her home. Ponnelio, her hometown, is o small village. She lives on o form nearby where her family raises rye ond sheep. Her mother runs o small shop where she sells sandwiches ond sweets. Elino hos one sister, Virpi. age 16. During her stay in the United States. Elino hos learned many things about our country ond people. She hos visited many new places ond hod some interesting experiences. SHe hos visited Florida on the Senior trip ond hos toured Washington, D.C. with the YFU program. She hos been introduced to some new foods ond forms of entertainment. Surely she won't forger Tarer Tors ond Donkey Basketball. Elino returned home on July 8, 1986. While anxious to be with her family ond friends, we hope she will always remember Mr. Oliver. Kentucky ond think of the American fomily ond friends she left behind. 10 Teacher's Aides Many of the seniors gave up on hour each day to volunteer os teacher's aides. Often they performed much appreciated services such os grading papers, running the copier, or decorating the bulletin board. Other days were spent helping o particular student or working with small groups.
