The Senior Class of 1984 Friends What is a day without sunshine. What is a night without stars, What is the purpose of lifetime If to others we show false desires? There is a joy in the presence of giving And proving ourselves to all ends, This question I pose to the living, What good Is life without friends? by Paul Salyers Dedicated to Eric Dryden Th j heortj were woven of humon joys and cores. Woshed morvellously with sorrow, swift ond minh. The yeors hod given them kindness. Down was rheirs. And sunser. ond the colors of (he eorrh. These hod seen movement, ond heard music: known Slumber ond woklng: loved: gone proudly friended Felt the qukk stir of wonder, sot olone Touched flowers ond furs ond cheeks. All this is ended. He leaves o white Unbroken glory, a gathered rodionce. A width, o shining peoce under the night. by Rupert Drooke On December 30. 1978. Eric Dryden died of injuries he received when the bicycle he was riding was struck by o cor. Eric, son of Harold and Shirley Dryden. was born on August 24. 1966 and attended Deming High School through the fifth grade, until his family moved to Carlisle. Kentucky. Eric's accident occurred before he enrolled at Nicholas County. Eric's classmates remember him as an outgoing, friendly boy who was a natural athlete. He loved the outdoors, so baseball and swimming were his favorite sports. His love for sports was equalled only by his love for horses. Eric frequently rode, and enjoyed collecting miniature horses. Eric was a vital part of our class and of our lives, a part we will not easily forget. 2 eniorA ynn (Jjrumuyen eniord •’y-ffy),'. ajCarru OJu ZarJ Deming Senior Left to Right: MOST POPULAR: Todd White and Ginger Gifford CLASS CLOWNS: Mike Jones and LoTrenda Rumford BEST PERSONALITY: Timmy Jett ond Tommy Kitchen BEST ALL AROUND: Darrin Martin and Sally Early wine BIGGEST PARTY PEOPLE: Phillip Workman and Cindy Fuller 6 Hall of Fame Left to Right: MOST ATHLETIC: Troy King ond Liz Pratt MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED: Mott Moon and Eve Overbey MOST DEPENDABLE: Danny Cose and Lisa Ramsey SHYEST: James Fredrick ond Sheila Gallagher MOST UNIQUE: Gene Wilson ond Susan Hedges 7 eniord erson H e r e W e A r e Timmy Mike Jennifer 10 Todd Gene Phillip Dorrln Eve Troy Tommy Corole Jimmy Liso LoTrendo Pom eniors Left to Right: Co-editor Liso Romsey. Debate Team For Nicky Englond ond Deth Linville, going into the elimination rounds of the Varsity State Debate Tournament as the number two team in the state was a fitting way to end a successful season. After being rated second in varsity in preseason ratings, the team's ranking never dropped below fourth in the state. The novice team consisting of Rob Linville and Anjonnette Gifford was equally successful. They began the year ranked number one in the state novice rankings and won several first and second place awards, including the two fopf speaker awards for Rob. During the second semester, Duane Jones and Rob Linville debated together and did extremely well. The teams competed in ten regular season and five post-season tournaments in five states. The teams won numerous awards ond finished in fifth place in one national-circuit tournament. In post season competition, Nicky and Deth placed third in a regional tournament and advanced to the state tournament. There they were undefeated in the preliminary rounds and lost in quarterfinals on a close decision. Deming's debate team ended the year with a record to be proud of. Deth Linville was named fop speaker in the state debate tournament. Deth Linville.
