A NEW LOOK . . . Traditions are important, especially in small schools, rural communities and yearbooks. Out as technology rushes forward, change is important, too. We have made some changes in this year's annual which we hope you will enjoy. We tried to run all photos larger. We used fewer posed group pictures and more candids, except in cases where coaches or sponsors strongly opposed the idea. We tried to provide your favorite teams and activities more coverage; in almost all cases their space has been expanded from one page to two. We used more captions under photos, so when you open the book 10 or 20 years in the future and your memory has dimmed, you will be able to identify the people. We added color candids to the senior section, and short articles to team and group coverage. Recognizing academic skills and knowledge as the main purpose of each school year, we gave achievers in those areas the same coverage as clubs and teams. Spelling bee, science fair, essay and debate competition are covered for the first time. Finally, we gave you a fable of contents to help you more quickly find your favorite person or group as you return to the book again and again. There were other changes we would have liked to have mode, and not every thing we did worked as well as we would have preferred. Next year's staff can try to improve on our work just as we tried to improve on last year's. And if they continue some of the ideas introduced in this book, those ideas will someday become traditions, too. All things considered, we enjoyed working on the 1983 Devil and are pleased with the finished product. We hope you agree. (Photos from top to bottom) 1. EdItor-in-Chief Gwen Ptott. 2.
