OF THE FUTURE... Sometime in the 70's, for reosons no longer known, by people now gone, Deming let its junior high bosketboll progrom die. This yeor, of the varsity level, that mistake was painfully obvious. With new coaches in both boys and girls programs, rebuilding the younger system has begun, as the photos on these pages show. But It was not easy. When a few talented players were found, they were pulled up to help the talent-short varsities. As a result, Deming's younger teams showed losing records. Still, with a large number of talented seventh graders back, and another incoming crop of 6th graders to help, both programs are hoping to turn things around in 1983-64. 23

OPPONENTS AND RAIN The wettest Spring in recent memory proved the toughest opponent of oil during the I960 baseball season. More than half the schedule had to be cancelled and even some games which were played were soggy affairs with players Keeping one eye on threatening skies. Despite the weather, however, the season opened with wins over MMI and Williamstown. Deming odvanced to the second day of the conference tournament and played well even in losing. With only five seniors on the 15-man roster, Deming saw hopes of finally building a solid baseball foundation. BATTER UP - Mark Thomas eyes the next pitch os Greg King catches. 25
