mk The Senior Class of Deming High School Proudly Presents the “1981 ”Deming Devil The Seniors of 81 Dedicate This Yearbook In Memory of Scott Cracraft Due to a tragic fire which took place Monday morning, February 2,1981, Scott Cracraft, a 6 year old first grade student, lost his life at his home, located a half mile east of Sardis. He was born August 26th, 1974 and was a student in Mrs. Jennifer Jones’ room the first semester of the 1980-81 school year, and was transferred to Mrs. Roberta Collins’ room the second semester. He was a well liked little boy, and was described by his former teacher, Mrs. Jones, and his classmates as a cute little character that liked and enjoyed school. Also, according to Scott’s classmates, he was everybody’s friend who will be greatly missed by each and every one of them. 2 si Ctncla CaxwCiffovl 'ZJony •ztfay =Mtminyi 5 1. Lisa Miller; Reporter, Linda Lainhart; Photographer. Rodney Massey; Historian, Debbie Jett. The junior class of 1980-81 kicked off the school year with activities during the first semester. In September, they ordered their class rings and decorated their class float for the annual school fair, at which they also sold concessions. Before long, the month of October was upon them and this meant getting their basketball throw booth ready for the Halloween Carnival and electing Linda Lainhart and Greg Hubbard as carnival royalty. November proved to be a busy month for the juniors. They started their first semester selling project, magazine sales. Later that month they elected Laura Tilton and Lisa Miller as Snow Queen candidates. When December arrived everyone was glad to see the Christmas vacation and the arrival of class rings. When school resumed in January, the month seemed to fly and February rolled around. Homecoming candidates chosen were Adrienne Graves, Lisa Miller, and Laura Tilton. The juniors also started their second money raising project, selling candy. In March the juniors cheered the Black Devils on to the Regional Tournament. The last of March and the first of April left the juniors preparing for the Junior-Senior Prom held on April 18. The theme was Sharing the Night Together.” The rest of the month passed quickly after the prom and the month of May brought the end of the year and graduation for the 1981 seniors which meant promotion for the juniors to SENIORS! Below: The juniors show their spirit during spirit week by doing the jitterbug, stuffing their penny jar. gobbling marsh-mellows, chanting loudly, and dressing tacky. 19 Jonnye Anderson Sherry Burden John Burns Angie Carpenter Renee Conley Ann Earlywine Danny Edwards Eddie Flack Linnette Henderson Deanna Hubbard Greg King Dwight Lainhart Cindy Linville James Linville Patty Mullikin Mark Myers Mary Nickerson Winston Pugh s o P h o m o r e s CLASS OFFICERS: Cindy Linville. Since this was our first year of high school, it meant money making projects in order to take a senior trip. Our first project was orange sales and we did very well. The 2nd semester we sold certificates for family portraits. Our freshmen were very active and took part in many school activities. Eve Overbey and Susan Hedges were both varsity cheerleaders and Liz Pratt and Ginger Gifford both started on J.V. and also played on varsity. Troy King made the J.V. and freshman B-ball teams. Other classmates on the 9th team were Todd White, Mike Jones. Matt Mann, Phillip Workman, Danny Case, and Darrin Martin. Freshmen band members were Eve Overbey, Ginger Gifford, Susan Hedges, and Matt Mann. Our candidates for Halloween royalty were Ginger Gifford and Danny Case. Our homecoming candidates were Liz Pratt, Eve Overbey and Ginger Gifford. As you can see, we had a busy year but we had fun, and we only hope we do as well the next three years.
