The Senior Sponsor Speaks His Mind (Editor's note: It was the desire of the annual staff to dedicate the 1965 DEMING DEVIL to our beloved, hard-workingsponsor, Mr. Moore; but he would not hear of it. Instead, heagreed to speak his mind. ) Members of the Graduating Class: It has always been my contention that any accomplishment that is well done is a thing of beauty and art. This applies whether it is painting a beautiful picture, or keeping a neat, accurate set of books; writing a best selling novel, or building a piece of precision production machinery; composing classical music or maintaining a happy home life for one's children. The list could go on and on indefinitely. All too often people consider their jobs and the niche that they fill in life as inferior and commonplace. They feel that their activities are insignificant and unworthy of any notice. As a result, they take no pride in their work and do not put any special effort or thought into it. To these people life has little meaning. It becomes merely a routine existence and their everyday work is a drudgery. They get in a rut and because of their passive attitude, they are apt to stay there. On the other hand there are people who see the unusual in the most commonplace. They get a great deal of pleasure out of putting that something extra into everything they do. They give their job, regardless of how others see it, an air of importance and their work stands out because they are putting some effort and thought into it. These people may not always be satisfied with all their efforts, but more times than not, they can take justifiable pride in what they have done. The person who enjoys life and his work the most is the one who puts the most of himself and his personality into it. A work of art is the product of both intellect and the imagination. These are the elements which, when combined, transform the ordinary into the unusual. I hope that you, the members of the graduating class, will always be able to maintain a proper balance of these two elements in your own lives. I am certain that you want to make worthwhile contributions to a better way of life for yourselves and for all mankind and it is my hope that you will pledge yourselves to that end. T Sincerely,
”
