THEN AND NOW - A CLASS HISTORY '63 - '62 - '61 - '59 -- A four-year Deming class launched into orbit with thirty-seven astronauts aboard on the sixth of September, 1959, at the Zero hour of 9:00 O'clock. Then as we were successfully placed into orbit, with Miss Imogene Shepherd as the Navigator, we found our position as Freshmen as one involving such preparatory courses as biological and general sciences, English, communications; mathematical calculations, applied sciences of home economics and agriculture, and a broad program of the social sciences. At the very on-set of our flight, we began plans for our reentry into the atmosphere with a brief stop at the nerve center of Washington, D. C. In the first phase of flight we added two new members with four drop-outs . After a brief interlude, thirty-five enrollers re-entered the second phase of our flight with Mrs. June Sims and Mrs. Sue Hombeck in the navigating role. Jeanne Rae Moran was chosen as president of the group. The third conquest into the unknown of learning was one filled with renewed zeal for both the school curriculum and the extra-curricular activities as the Junior play, the Junior-Senior Prom, and the record-breaking magazine sales campaign with Ronald Murray and Marianne Insko receiving sales- Compliments of COX GROCERY Powersville BRACKEN COUNTY NEWS Brooksville FIRST NATIONAL BANK Brooksville WESTERN AUTO Brooksville manship honors. This year Nancy Mitchell and Jeanne Moran were awarded State Degrees in Home Economics, the highest award possible in F.H.A. Gary Houchens served in the capacity of President, while Orville Hamilton and Mrs. Lucille Sandifer were sponsors to the thirty-three aspirants for the final stage in the flight. The primary purpose of our student-in-orbit program has been to train for passage on the flight path to new horizons. Moving at hypersonic speed, we are now slowing down as Seniors so that we may make the runway to adulthood when in May, 1963, twenty-seven in number, we file down the gangplank for the parade of diplomas. Prior to graduation our activities centered around the Senior play, selling of annual ads, and the sale of candy at basketball games. With T. Ross Moore commanding the final phases of our flight, we have invested much of time, efforts, and intelligence in acquiring preparation for life in a new realm. As Commander Moore often-time proclaims: We learn from every experience that every discovery is of value. Our task is by no means complete--in the near future each of us shall find a special orbit suitable to our dimensions and intensities.
