MAINS AND SON Maysville Compliments of MEADOW GOLD PRODUCTS BEGLEY'S DRUGS DREAM BAR Cincinnati Cynthiana Maysville The Story of Gem” A Class History In the course of twelve years at the Deming La Gravure , the precious gems of our intellectual achive-ments have been polished to perfection by trained engravers. Time, studded lavishly with the days, weeks, months, and years, reflects the brilliantly glowing designs which have been chiseled by patience out of the unpolished stones. Through a carefully planned process, the three R's, plus additional basic subjects, were etched into our educational pattern by such designers as Mistresses Galbraith, Henderson, Overbey. Brumagem, and Berry and Misses Shepherd and Louderback. The plans followed by junior and senior high school engravers have cut the gems of our minds in a number of different ways, depending, of course, on the changing fashions in jewelery and on the particular mineral which makes up the gem. The 1958 Sapphire (September) was glowing with promise when forty gems of varying size and texture assembled with Miss Shepherd for the Freshmen homeroom sessions. The bright glow in this chain of memories is our spring tour of historic interests in Lexington. Co-sponsoring our Sophomore year. Miss Cleaver (now Mrs. Sims) and Mrs. Sandifer worked with us to start our savings account for future investments. Activities, such as feeding the Lions Club and selling candy, were secondary to the time we spent whitting our growing minds with English, social studies, literary gems, mathematical equations, scientific developments, agricultural formula and domestic science. These were the tools which the master engravers used to equip our minds with a brilliance reflecting past glories and future possibilities. In the eleventh year, Mr. Hamilton began to chart the route over which we should travel for the school year. The sale of magazines; the presentation of the Junior Play, “Tell It To Ethel , and the Junior-Senior Prom still glow among the wonderful memories of this year. We learned The Story of America , in great detail, in Mr. Compliments of MARK BRADLEY Cynthiana SIMON KENTON WAREHOUSE Maysville C. P. HOUCHES AND SONS Mt. Olivet BLACK HILL POULTRY FARM Mt. Olivet Moore's American history class, began to study French, sought inspiration from American Writers , and continued to try to learn to write and speak English correctly and with ease. The final facets of the diamond are fast being polished and soon, unless we are imperfect stones, we will be transformed into brilliant gems. Our money-making schemes include the sale of candy and other things at ball games, the sale of Christmas cards, and the presentation of the Senior play, SUSIE THE SIREN. The selling of ads for the Deming Devil has been a rewarding experience, financially as well as otherwise, and our sponsor. Mr. Moore, deserves a bouquet of roses for a job well done, once again. When Mr. Adkins, the Superintendent, passes out the cherished diplomas on the night of May 30th the faces of all the seniors will reflect the glow of true happiness as much as twenty-six diamonds in a Tiffany showcase. Diamonds look dull when they are taken from the ground. Twelve years ago the boys and girls who are now seniors had very little power to reflect light. It is the hope of Deming School that the twelve years have added a Finish to the stones that will reflect credit to the educational processes. Gem diamonds are the most costly jewels in the world and our boys and girls are the most valuable resources of our community. Diamonds are judged according to weight, purity, color, and cut. Our seniors, though they may yet need more polishing, must be judged by achievement, goal, ideals, citizenship, morality, and use of light as the light is shown them.
