I'm watching You Row, Row, Row, Your Boat The crimson and gold hues were just tinting the trees in the fall of 57 when forty lads and lassies, already well acquainted with the whys and “wherefores of Deming, scribbled their names on Berlin S. Clift's record book. Mr. Clift, our first sponsor through our first year, worked with us on our beginning projects as well as chaperoned our annual class pilgrimage to Cinerama and the Cincinnati Zoo. This year Franklin Duncan presided over our class meetings, with Ray Bruce Craig as assistant to the President. Minutes of the traditional “ last meeting were kept by Mary Ann Watson, while Suzie Jett “treasured the money we planned to make. Nature’s Bridge in the Sky (Natural Bridge) Five of a Kind Seniors Participate in County Fair (7th Grade, of course) Stairway to the Sky Pilgrims to Nature’s Bridge Inside the Center of the Earth Sun Bathing (?) The School year of 1958-59 began with thirty four members under the calm sponsorship of Orville Hamilton. Joburn Montgomery “ gavelecT the class meetings with the help of Billy Carpenter in the role of “veep”. Larry Hughes kept the records while ex-president Frank Duncan served as “class banker”. This year our girls chalked up a victory in winning the volleyball tournament and Diana Craig achieved honors for herself and the class by winning the county-wide Spelling Bee. Carter Caves was the destination for our class trip. The Natural Doorway Can You Imagine That? Get On the Bandwagon! Entering our homeroom in September 1959-60, as Jolly Juniors, we found Mrs. Elizabeth Craig and Mr. Orville Hamilton co-sponsoring our dwindling in number” crew. Election day rolled around and Billy Carpenter, 58 Veep, was voted up a notch and Diana Craig was chosen Miss Veep. Suzie Jett and Ray Craig took over the records, secretary book-wise and money-wise. Danger! Willie at Work , a howling comedy in three acts, drew a big crowd and brought in a nice sum of reserve seat ticket money. The boys won the softball tournament, and we proved ourselves super” salesmen and women as we sold more magazines than any class since the Class of 1952. Barry Barnett, Marvin Bradley, and Leola Poe won salesmanship awards. Since the boys made the most sales as a whole, we girls gave them a backward” party at Blue Licks Park. The Junior-Senior Prom, with Pat McKay’s orchestra supplying background music, was staged amidst the blue and silver splendor themed to the catchy tune of “Catch A Falling Star. This year LaVaughn Cole won the Spelling Contest and Diana Craig received her State Homemakers Degree and a trip to Morehead College. Other honors were won by Suzie Jett, Diana Craig, Mary Ann Watson, and LaVaughn Cole in the Soil Conservation Essay Contest. Now, I wonder what he did 1 1 1 The Champs’ United We Stand . . . Have I Overslept? Rapidly donning the dignity and poise so characteristic of the “traditional senior , we entered the Deming portals amidst the late August heat of 1960-61, twenty-six of us carefully engraving our names in the record book of T. Ross Moore, Senior Sponsor. This being the big election year, Marvin Bradly won the presidency while Diana Craig remained in the role of vice president. Barbara Caldwell was chosen secretary and Ray Craig was given the task of keeping up with the fabulous senior bank account. The class play, “They Gave Him A Co-Ed”, was presented on December 8th to a very small crowd due to the season’s first snow. Prior to this our boys capped the Farm Bureau Fair Softball Tournament for the second time. Three senior boys, John Reeves, Joburn Montgomery, and Philip Hester,“ starred” in the first team basketball games, while Suzie Jett helped to cheer the boys on to victory including the classic defeat of Bracken County, Daryl Mastin, assisted by Ray Craig, managed the squad while Marvin Bradley and Barry Barnett kept the “Box Scored printed in our local newspaper. Honors came thick and fast” for the Seniors. Marvin Bradley won the Halloween King title, while Diana Craig became Farm Bureau Queen. Joburn Montgomery, a “ chip” off the old block, remained loyal to Montgomery traditions by winning the high jump. John Reeves was second in line for the honor. Billy Hunt won the hundred yard dash. Along the literary lines, Diana Craig was presented a twenty-five dollar savings bond for writing the best essay on the anticipated revision of the Kentucky Constitution and three seniors, Ray Craig, Franklin Duncan, and Diana Craig were awarded checks for conservation essays. Our annual was, of course, our outstanding “ out of class” project. Leola Poe and Marvin Bradley served as co-editors on this project. Very soon now, after our long-awaited visit to our Nation’s Capital, Wahsington, D. C., we will write “ finis” to our high school career. After a farewell get-together at the Roselawn, in Paris, Kentucky, we will say with the French Au revoir! At long last, we have received our coveted diplomas and are ready to take the high road to the future. Like cool 1 Man! Cool! Look What Hollywood Missed!
