Advertising . . 3 th e 4 Content Dear Mom and Dad, Remember the many times in the spring that we have gone for a ride on Sunday afternoon, sightseeing in old Robertson County, and the times we have gone together to the basketball games, and stood by our Deming Devils through thick and thin. Not only do we remember the good times we have had together as a family, but we also remember the many times during our school years when we thought that our problems were too great to overcome--but you were always there to help and guide us. You have always been ready to see that we got to school activities, no matter at what inconvenience to you. We are extremely grateful for your encouragement and enthusiasm at the times when our zeal was gone. We trust this yearbook will be a reminder of our ehrly years with you. We dedicate this book to you, our parents, to your unselfishness, wisdom, and countless virtues that have governed our lives to become a better citizen. Gratefully yours. The 1956 Seniors JAMES W. Clwc 3eacfie A Have you ever thought, what nobler calling could you find. What greater honor, making you rejoice; Than this great task to which you've been assigned. Training young minds for labors of their choice. No doubt at times you are discouraged and feel That from your efforts, can come no good nor right; But think what joy would be yours, should you reveal One noble trait or bring some talent to the light. Perhaps a future president may sit within your class An inventor, a composer, an explorer, who can say? That one you think is stupid and fails to pass. Win wide acclaim some now, far distant day. And should a name be heaped with laurels, how proud you will be; And you will say, “perhaps I shaped him, for his destiny.” JOANNA BURNS Jody works, she plays does this does that; But most of all she likes to chat. A friend to brighten up the way. Not too solemn, not too gay- HIRAM CLOUGH Sjenie SANDRA DIANE CLINE Sandy is our lovely blonde; Of her we are so very fond. One of the best workers you'll ever find. He gets things done in a little time. A familiar sound in our halls Is Dix's ceaseless chatter. Everyone knows it's friendliness. Not gossip that's the matter. DIXIE COURTNEY S nuvux WENDELL ELLISON The bullet that will kill me is not yet cast. Tall, quiet with a nice smile Humor that's hard to beat A man of the world in a Buick That the girls think quite neat WARREN CAYWOOD MASSEY WANDA JANE HOWARD Here's the lass who's quite a gal; To everyone she is a pal. 1 PERRY GIFFORD I always get the better when I argue alone. A little shiny sunbeam Never makes much noise. But has the popularity That Carolyn enjoys. CAROLYN MASSEY Senior HENRY NORRIS Not too tall, not too small. He's a guy that's liked by all. His eyes spell mischief. His smile spells Hi! We all like him, He's one swell guy. JOHNNY T. WHITE JOAN NORRIS Joanie is the kind of gal Who'll be the people's choice For fun and personality. As well as for her voice. I'll study if I feel like it, and won't if I don't. I'll pass it I can; if I can't I won't. STANLEY WOODS Dear D.H.S. Underclassmen Just a little note to tell you about our four years at D.H.S. It was not all play, but quite a bit of work. We started in high school just as green as you were, but look how we turned out! You can do the same too, if you follow in our footsteps. As we stepped on to the prison grounds, we were suddenly faced with a large group of upper-classmen and realized that we were expected to fulfill the tasks which had been fulfilled before us. As Green Freshmen we planted the seed of learning that was to develop into the Fruit of Knowledge. Mrs. Sandifer helped us sink our roots deep into the fertile soil of textbooks. Braving all the hardships and drought with the help of our advisors Mrs. Sandifer and Mr. Hale, we finally gained the title of Silly Sophomores. Our Junior year was one of our best years. As Jolly Juniors,” we ordered our rings. Our Junior play was Antics of Andrew.” Our Junior-Senior Banquet went off like a bang! It was simply wonderful, even though we were, with Mrs. Barnett’s help, still working on it while the guests were eating. Our theme was Call of The Wild. At last now we are nearing the top of the ladder. As Sophisticated Seniors,” Perry Gifford is our President; Warren Massey, Vice-President; Joanna Burns, Secretary; and Carolyn Massey, Treasurer. Our Senior class play is Look Behind You. Our class motto is Forward ever, backward never. We have chosen blue and white as our class colors and the red rose is our class flower. As our Senior year is rapidly passing away, we are eagerly anticipating our coveted diplomas and our Senior trip. As you can see this hasn’t been a bit dull, now has it? So the best of luck to the Underclassmen. We hope you have as much fun, and as much cooperation from the students and faculty, as we have had. Sincerly yours, Wanda Jane Howard Senior Class DIXIE COURTNEY AND JEAN NORRIS £oaI Will and Jje tament We the Senior Class of 1956, being of sound mind, do on this day of, November 28th, in the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred fifty-six, hereby declare this to be our legally documented last will and testament. As a group, we Seniors may never become actresses or actors, but we have had our part of the stage; therefore, we bequeath it to Rosemary Clooney for the world premier of The Stars Are Singing.” Individual members of the Class wish to make the following be- Joanna Burns wills her driving skill to Phyllis Orme, her black onyx ring to Sandra White, and her bottle of peroxide to Mrs. Sandifer. Sandy Cline wills her reading ability to Lloyd Wells, her boy friends to Suzanne Hale, and her intelligence to Karen. Dixie Courtney wills her flirtatious nature and dialect to Sue Carol Orme. Joan Norris wills her Green Eyes to Phyllis Thompson and her good personality to Patsy Mastin. Jane Howard wills her bashfulness to Peggy Wells and her ability to keep quiet to Bobby Carpenter. Carolyn Massey wiUs some of her hair to Connie Jett, in hopes she won’t cut it, and her Farm Bureau Queen title to Doris Fooks. Perry Gifford wills our beloved Mr. Hamilton to next year’s Seniors and to Scotty Graves he leaves all rights and claims to Mary Ann. Stanley Woods wills his position as Romeo” of the Senior Class to Donald Henson. Warren Massey wills his Buick to Myron Harber, in case his little maroon Chevie ever gets too small for him. Stanley Clark wills his ability to make A’s without studying to Geneva' Brumagen. Hiram Clough wills his typing speed to Mary Alice Mastin in hopes she will break the record. Wendell Ellison wiUs his 41 Chevie to Mr. Moore in case his breaks down. Johnny White wills his ability to make things disappear to Lacy Rogers. Henry Norris doesn’t want the discussions in American Government class to drag” so he leaves the job of keeping it going to Peggy Allen. quests: Setuox (Hoa SWefifiecy, Joanna Burns As I sit here looking to the globe, I see Lieutenant and Mrs. Zane Graves, formerly Dixie Courtney, who are now residing at Miami, Florida, where Lieutenant Graves is furthering his army career and Dixie is caring for her twin girls. As I gaze longer into the globe, I see Mrs. Jimmie Simons, formerly Joan Norris, residing at their ranch-style home on Reading Road, Cincinnati, Ohio. Warren Massey and Henry Norris are struggling to make ends meet by raising tobacco on Wolf Run Road. Hiram Clough has gone to Cynthiana to join the unknown. Because of his great popularity with the people in that city, he has been made Mayor of the town. Then I see the former Carolyn Massey, in her lovely home in Portsmouth, Ohio, where her husband, Billy Brayfield, is now over-seer of the Portsmouth Construction Plant. Then there’s Perry Gifford, the owner of the largest gambling casino, the Golden Nugget, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In his spare time, he runs his ranch in Austin, Texas, as a hobby. Then I see our famous magician, Tyler the Great, alias, Johnny White, who is now giving a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Stanley Clark (the brain) is now Professor of Science at the University of Paris, Paris, France. The Romeo of the 1956 Senior class, Stanley Woods, is now playing a leading role in one of Holly woods most romantic movies, Lover Boy. I keep on gazing until I see another figure, none other than Wendell Ellison. He is a very successful farmer in Bourbon County. In the big city of Nashville, Tennessee, Jane Howard, now Mrs. Robert Gallagher, is attending to the little Gallaghers while Bobby serves his time with the U.S. Army. The new-comer to our Senior class, blonde Sandy Cline, has just finished her studies for a dietician. In the fall, she will begin her work in the Deming Home Economics Department. Since 1 now know that all my former class-mates are happy and settled, 1 can relax here on my huge Hereford cattle ranch in the wide open spaces.” My address is “The Rushing G-E Ranch, Denver, Colorado.
