Sup dntendent’s When I was in high school the atom was such a little thing that it was considered of no importance. We knew that when you divided molecules of matter you got atoms but nothing that small carried much weight. Today we realize how wrong we were when we try to fathom the fearful power that is stored in it. We must look at it with new respect. This is a clue for a new measure of ourselves. Individually, we seem infinitely small when faced with today’s task ofshapinga new world order. But, like the atom, we can start a chain reaction, releasing the energies of other people, which can become a terrific power. Now it does matter what onepersonmay do. Our teachers are cognizant of the fact that the welfare of the individual child is of paramount importance; therefore, to all students I would say, that if possible, stay in school. The training that you receive today is worth far more to you than the monetary value that you place upon it. To the Board of Education, and the citizens who support our institutions of learning, I would like to remind you that good schools are the best gilt-edged security that money can buy. The greatest area of warfare today is considered to be in the minds of men. Our future rests in the intellect of the peoples of the world. Sincerely, JAMES W. COLVIN JAe yxincipat Sjjxaka Fellow citizens, we cannot escape education. The fiery trial through which we pass will light us down in honor or dishonor to the latest generation. We shall nobly save or meanly lose the last best hope of earth -- peace of mind. T. ROSS MOORE -Good luck and best wishes to the Senior Class of ’54. ORVILLE HAMILTON
