Remember the year we were Freshmen? We were green! That year we numbered 21. We had dropped from 36 in the eighth grade. Mr. Moore was our sponsor and under his inspiration we began to make money in anticipation of trips to come. In our Sophomore year, we were improving, but we still weren’t models of decorum! If you don't believe this you can just ask our Sophomore sponsor, Mr. Farcie Woods, for this is the year in which Coach Woods moved here and took over as our home room teacher and as coach of our District Tournament team. Bobby McDowell transferred to Deming from Milford Junior High School. In our Junior year, we were a jolly group. We made money for our Junior trip by selling candy and beanies. We were delighted to have Mr. Moore back as our sponsor. He had finished his M. A. degree in Southern History at the University of Kentucky and returned to teach at Deming once more. The production of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol” was an outstanding success and those attending still rememberMr. Moore as Scrooge, and BobbyGraves as Tiny Tim. Being true to our motto Be Different, we took a three-day Junior trip. We had fun and learned a lot on a See Kentucky tour which took us to Mammoth Cave and Nashville, Tennessee. Our Senior year has been fun this far. and I know it will be so until the day we change the tassels on our caps and turn our rings. This year we were glad to welcome a newcomer. Thomas K. Linville, who came from Mayslick. Our class clearly illustrates the heavy dropout problem. We began with 21 as Freshmen, but as Seniors we number 11. Why have the others dropped out? Four of the girls took marital status--two girls quit and entered the world of business--six boys quit for economic reasons and one failed and quit. Now as we are seniors, we think back over the last three years of our-life and high school career. We have no doubt, had hard knocks and bumps, but we have fenjoyed each year as we never will enjoy future years. During this year we sold magazines. Christmas cards, and advertisement to help finances. We also gave the annual senior play, an event to which we had long looked forward. We must and want to say that we would not and could not have attained this great height if it had not been for the wonderful parents, teachers, and principal along our way who have encouraged us and helped us with untiring strength. Olivet, draws nearer, we the members of the Senior Class of 1951-52, wholly sound in mind and philosophy, hereby take our pen in hand, on this sixteenth day of November, to make our last will and testament. First and foremost, the Senior Class as a whole leaves to our home room teacher, T. Ross Moore, a thousand memories of the happy years we have spent with him coupled with our sincere tribute of respect for his guidance and untiring consideration. Tcrour Supt. , James W. Colvin; our Principal, H. E. Meacham; and the other members of the Deming Faculty we bequest our very best wishes for the continued growth of our school as well as a silent avowa' of thanks of all past educational opportunities. To the Juniors, we will our secluded little room on the top floor of the main building, providing they do not mar its implicit beauty so modernly and artistically designed by our master minds. All individual personal property is to be disposed of in the following manner: To Margaret Linville, Lorraine Bums bequeaths tall and soldierly Frank Bradley. To Nancy Overbey goes Mary Lois Bums’ musical ability. Barbara Curtis wills her big blue eyes” to Royce French. To Anna Ellis. Mary Lou Jones leaves her technique of flirting with every strange male within fifty mile radius of dear ole Mt. Olivet. Judy Ann Linville reluctantly leaves her pleasant associations with the Bracken County Polar Bears to Mary Lou Insko. Tommy Linville sadly wills our beloved Mr. Moore to next year’s Seniors and to Billy Hughes he leaves all rights and claims to Lu-Lu. On Glenn Ellyn Buckner, Levaughn Linville bestows her height. To Bobby Case goes Bobby McDowell’s seat in the study hall. (Editor’s note; Casey, you can flirt with Betty now.) Grant Paynter leaves his position as Romeo of the Senior Class to Billy Jett. Jimmy Poe wills his good grades to Douglas Wright. To Ross Mitchell. Noel Dean Poe leaves all claims to Edna Humphrey. To this document we affix our signatures. Witnesses; Tired and weary in mind and body after a long, hard day at Deming High School, I rushed home as soon as the last bell rang and practically collapsed into an easy chair drawn close to the fire. It was November and cold outside. The flames burned brightly in the old-fashioned fireplace and silently I gave thanks that Mom and Dad had never changed our nearth for a new-fangled furnace. Gazing into the dancing fire, I lingered half between reality and dreamland when suddenly it seemed I heard a faint whisper: ' come with me into the land where dreams come true and I will tell you what is to happen to the members of die Demine High School graduating class of 1951. Or do you really want to know? Turning I saw standing just beyond the cozy fire a beauteous maid, adorned in white, clean, spotless, and pure, like future days in future years, yet unmarred by time and toil and disillusionment. Taking her hand we flitted across the years on the mystic wings of the future and boarded a tall, massive ship enroute to the Isle Where Dreams Come True. Sailing across the placid waters of the Sea of the Future, there fell on my ears the faint strains of low, sweet music, echoing, strangely enough, the words of an old poem I shall never forget: We look before and after. And pine for what is not; Our sincerest laughter With some pain is fraught; Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thoughts. Almost at once I knew I was ready to leave behind our carefree past, though not without a sigh. It was then I realized that the shining maid was speaking: Here, she said, is the Isle where dreams come true beyond your wildest expectations. Here each cherished hope, each aspiration becomes a reality if you work hard enough and long enough. See over there in the far distant future in the thriving little city of Mt. Olivet, your old classmate, Lorraine Bums, has married Frank Bradley and together they have made their dreams of a modem, up-to-date service station come true. Just a few blocks down Main Street, if you’ll notice, Mary Lou Jones and her inseparable pal, Judy Linville, are working as private secretaries in the exclusive office of T. Ross Moore, Supt. of Schools. Sad to relate, these two are still playing the field , so to speak, simply because they choose to do so. Mt. Olivet is really progressing with its modem Barber-Beauty Shop combination, skillfully operated by Grant Romeo Paynter and his charming wife, the former Christine Wright. Down the fourlane highway, near Piqua, Jimmie Poe and Alice Mann are farming and raising a family. In the northern section of Robertson you see that Noel Dean Poe and blonde Edna Humphrey have become Earl Mack Linville’s farm manager. Occasionally, Noel Dean has a little matrimonial trouble because of Edna’s inherent jealousy of Janie. Barbara Curtis, a Grayson graduate, is a Missionary, but will soon return to the States to nurse Rovce back to health. Lois Bums and Tommy Linville are both in Cincinnati, die is at the Conservatory of Music and he is at the University of Cincinnati in the Engineering department. Lavaughn Linyllle and her big sister just graduated from U. K. It is still a toss-up as to which will capture M. C. Ogden. Way aown on the West Coast, Bobby McDowell is making the latest version of Frankie and Johnnie with redhead. Margaret Morgan, as his leading lady. Come now, we must go back for you are growing seasick, tossed ana turned on the tempestuous waters of the Future. Reluctantly I aroused myself, only to sleep again, this time to dream of tests and English themes and Algebra problems. RILEY M. SEE Post 143 Mt.
