Time: 1949 Place: Deming High School Gym Occasion: Reunion of graduating class of 1949. cu After a decade of establishing ourselves in the field of our choice, we the Senior Class of 1949 decided it was time for a reunion at “our old Alma Mater. The first to arrive was Mary Jo Barnette, our Class President, who found pleasure in telling us of her work as Assistant to Dr. Moore, Head of the Department of History at the University of Kentucky. Next to arrive were Mr. and Mrs. John King, Jr. (formerly Donnie Morford). They were accompanied by a “young King.” Mary Lou Hildreth joyfully told us that she had been made Superintendent of Nurses at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. Juanita Myers is no longer known as the bashful girl. “ She found great pleasure in telling us of the careful life of a “spinster” who loves books, rocking chairs and cats. Phyllis Jett has become a private secretary, her ambition since High School days. She is in the employment of the Meacham Brokage. Los Angeles, California. Donald McBrayer has lived up to our high expectation, he is now Editor of the Tribune Democrat, a local and independent journal devoted to the interests ofRobertson and adjoining counties. Don stands for “Purity of thought, purity of action—the noblest outbursts of a generous nature.” Nolan Craig and wife, alias Norma Howard, told us of their huge success in farming. Nolan is one of the most successful farmers in the state. Glancing around looking for an experienced homemaker, the former Bettey Stoker informed us that she could give us many useful “household hints.” Wayne Selby, bachelor, gladly told us many exciting experiences as owner of the Rose-lawn Cassino. Dr. W. O. Massey was last to arrive as usual--he was delayed by a maternity case, twins born to the wife of E. C. Thomas. This event prevented E. C. from attending. Each of us greatly enjoyed the reunion, indulging in reminiscence and comparing experiences which awakened in our hearts many happy memories of those four happy years spent at Deming High School. We decided June of 1969 would be suitable for another occasion such as this. 10

W£ and dJestament We, the Seniors of Deming High School, Class of '49, being of sound mind and body do declare this to be our last will and testament. To the faculty we leave our memory to give them patience and endurance in teaching the remaining classes. To the Juniors we leave our beloved home room along with all the history notes and workbooks to be found in the desks. To Mrs. Sandifer, our beloved home room teacher for three years of our academic career, we bequeath our utmost appreciation for the patient guidance she so generously gave. E. C. Thomas leaves his wit and humor to Gene Browning, but prefers to keep Rosalyn for himself. Donald McBrayer leaves his ability to conceal pictures of fictitious girls to James Allen Poe. Wayne Selby leaves his dates with Connie, Marilyn and Lela to Elwood “Tootie Linville. John King, Jr. wills his endurance at poker playing in the wee hours of the morning to Foster Ogden. Nolan Craig leaves his conversational ability to Ann Ross Holmes. Donnie Morford leaves her ability to carry ten subjects to Wilburn Whaley. Mary Jo Barnette leaves her office position to Lelia Rose Clark, along with the work that goes with it. Mary Lou Hildreth wills her position as Capt. of Cheerleaders to Joyce Massey and her short stature to Lucy Fooks. Phyllis Jett leaves her blond hair and blue eyes to Betty Henderson and her sweet disposition to Ann Overbey. Norma Howard leaves her trim figure to Martha Mitchell and her quiet disposition to Jimmy Hall. Juanita Myers leaves her ability to drive safely, and carefully to Paul Allen Wells. Betty Stoker wills her talents to entertain “gentlemen friends to Constance Craig. W. O. Massey leaves his “little black address” book to Carmen Burns. 9
