ML77 On the beautiful, sunny morning of September 18, 1944, we, as Freshmen, be- gan our journey up the edu ational ladder of success. Thirty-three excited students enrolled in our class at the beginning of our high school career. We were the typical, mischievous Freshmen. One by one during the first year, our classmates dropped out of school until at the beginning of ou Sophomore year theredwere only twenty-two of us left. Our second year, like our first, soon PII!! e Our number decreased to twenty during our Junior year. It was then we be n making extensive plans for raising money to sponsor a trip to some interesting place at the end of our Senior year. In the fall of 1947 we began the last lap of our high school jou ney. with eighteen students, each eager to tackle the remaining courses in English, Government, Ph slcs, and Agriculture, we Joyfully entered our Senior year at Deming High School, We elected Viola Barnette for our class President and chose as our motto one of Benjamin Frank11n's famous sayings: 'There are no gains without painsn. Some of us will no doubt choose to go further down the road that eventually leads to fame and fortune. Fond memories of our four years here at Deming High School shall ever go with us on our journey through life. Too, we shall always appreciate the part that our instructors have played in the shaping of our destinies. They have helped us in achieving a portion of success and happiness. Soon we shall be saying goodbye to Deming High School and as we leave her portals may we say as Longfellow once wrote: Lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime, And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time, Footprints, that perhaps another, Sailing o'er l1fe's solemn main, A forlorn and shipwrecked brother, Seeing, shall take heart again.
