Let all the world say what they may, speak of me as you find. — Brian Jones Closing — 229 Editor ' s Note This is my time to express thanks to all those whose concern and assistance have directly or indirectly made this book possible. My first thank yous go to Ruth Wong and Jody Correro for talking me into this whole thing, and to my adviser Bob Lord for seeing it through. I am also grateful to my assistants and staff, and to the good people at Taylor Publishing Company for their hospitality. For their love and support, I owe much to my parents, Sam and Barbara Billingsley. I also have a special feeling for those good friends who have shared their lives with me and allowed me to share mine with them — Jimmy Smylie, Bruce Bailey, Susan Hollomon, Ricky Ciarloni, Regina Rickels, David Robinson, Sammy Britt, Paige Posey, Richard Taylor, Kim Norwood, Tommy Morgan, Lisa Baker, Joe Smith. These and others have not been afraid to take risks and show their individuality, and have earned my love, admiration and respect. For reminding me at times when I needed reminding that there is a world beyond Cleveland and Delta State, I thank D. H. Lawrence, Thomas Hardy, Muriel Spark, J. D. Salinger, the Rolling Stones, the Who, and others who have astonished and amazed me. Anyone else I have forgotten to thank will have to take the subject up with me personally. I ' m open for suggestions. cmui 230 — Editors Note
