2X 06V t9 v£Kt In the same year that Delta State University is celebrating its 50th Anniversary, one of its own has been chosen to serve as the institu- tion ' s Fifth President. Dr. Forest Kent Wyatt, the first alumnus so honored, was named to this high position on July 1, 1975. He is qualified uniquely by nurture, edu- cation, and experience to serve his alma mater as president. Upon graduation from Cleveland High School, Dr. Wyatt entered the then Delta State Teachers College and in 1 956 received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a major in mathematics from the insti- tution he now heads. He received his Master of Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi four years later. In 1 970 he was awarded the Doctor of Edu- cation with emphasis in administra- tion and supervision by the Univer- sity of Mississippi. Ever a loyal supporter of Delta State University, Dr. Wyatt ' s affilia- tion with the University reached beyond the alumnus stage on July 1 , 1 964, when he became the insti- tution ' s first full-time Alumni Secre- tary. In 1 969 he was appointed as Administrative Assistant to the late President James M. Ewing and con- tinued in this position with President Aubrey Keith Lucas. Dr. Wyatt also held the positions of Director of Administrative Services and Associ- ate Professor of Education. His apprenticeship under two presi- dents gave him unique opportuni- ties for insight into the responsibili- ties of a university president. As the institution enters its sec- ond half century of service, Alum- nus and Fifth President Forest Kent Wyatt, brings new and growing dimensions to the heritage that is a living Delta State University.
