A PROCLAMATION Since all Americans are joining this month in the celebration of our Nation ' s Bicentennial, observing with affection and reverence the un- paralleled contributions of this Nation to the quality of life in the world, and Inasmuch as Delta State University, since its creation on April 9, 1924, and its official opening on September 15, 1925, has been a leading educational force in contributing to the quality of life in the Mississippi Delta , and Since the faculty, staff, student body, and alumni of Delta State University and the people of Cleveland and Bolivar County are committed to the continued progress and success of Delta State University, of the United States, and of mankind in general, and Because we desire to bequeath to our posterity symbols of our respect and love for our Nation, our University, and our Community, and in recognition that Delta State University is concluding its celebration of its own Fiftieth Anniversary, of which this ceremony is a part, and Because these mementoes of this institution ' s Golden Anniversary are being deposited as a tribute to the rich heritage with which we have been endowed, and which we would sincerely wish to be revered and ex- panded by future generations , and WHEREAS, it is with sincere best wishes for the perpetuation and enhancement of this heritage and for continuing progress toward an atmosphere of more perfect peace and tranquility in which to grow, I, Forest Kent Wyatt, Fifth President of Delta State University, therefore, direct that these items be deposited in the soil of the quadrangle at Delta State University and do request that they be not disturbed until September 15, 2025, with appropriate respect and ceremony. On this the sixth day of July, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and seventy-six, beginning the two hundred and first year of the independence of the United States of America, the one hundred and fifty- ninth year of the State of Mississippi, and the fifty-first year of Delta State University, I affix my signature to this proclamation in behalf of the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of Delta State University.
