Taylor Hall In 1969-1970 the aca- demic program was reor- ganized into lour schools. These schools are the School of Arts and Sciences which encompasses the disci- plines of the arts, human- ities, sciences, and social sciences; the School of Business, formed to pre- pare a person to enter the world of business or to enter the teaching field; the School of Edu- cation which prepares competent teachers for elementary and second- ary schools; and the School of Graduate Stud- ies to offer a graduate program for intellectual and professional growth. In 1971, Dr. Aubrey K. Lucas began an impres- sive term as president of DSC. One of the many highlights of his adminis- tration was the change of name from Delta State College to Delta State University on March 15, 1974. Today, DSU ' s physical plant has an estimated net worth of $28,000,000. There are 178 full-time faculty members and approxi- mately 3,200 students. In the history of the school, 1,126 graduate degrees and 8,933 undergradu- ate degrees have been awarded. Delta State University has expanded beyond the original mission of teacher preparation into a multi-purpose institu- tion serving students, alumni, community, state, and the nation.

Graduate work for teachers was offered for the first time in 1 965. A Master of Education degree was approved and awarded in May, 1966. In November, 1969, the gradu- ate program was expanded with a Master of Arts degree, the Master of Business Administration, the Master of Library Science, and the Mas- ter of Science.
