DEDICATION Dr. James H. McLendon, 1912-1967 Dean and Professor of History Delta State College, 1961-1967 The decision to dedicate the 1 968 BROOM to the late Dean McLendon was made prior to his untimely death which occurred December 27, 1 967. We, of the staff, had looked forward to presenting this yearbook to Dr. McLendon in appreciation of his many academic and personal contributions to our college. We deeply regret that we are now deprived of that privilege. Dr. McLendon was a man of many facets who will be re- membered not only as a fine teacher, a scholarly historian, and a civic leader, but also as a dean who served Delta State College with distinction. His untiring interest in all that touched the college won the admiration and respect of the entire student body. Dr. McLendon came to Delta State at a period of rapid growth and expansion on our campus. He brought to the position of dean dignity, foresight, and academic integ- rity. He was endowed with a quick wit and a sense of humor which he employed to lighten the burden of serious decisions. He had a talent for visualizing the future and yet being constantly attentive to the needs of today. His convincing fairness and sympathetic counseling along with his warm personality combined to make this man one whose memory death will not diminish. We are, therefore, proud to dedicate the 1968 BROOM to the late Dr. James H. McLendon.
