PHILLIP F4RR FB P RkS JOHNSON ( 198 LITTLE ALL-AMERICAN LES HENMXG Delta State halfback Les Henning has been named to the 1961 Williamson ' s Little AU-American Poll of football teams. The fleetfooted star is a graduating senior from Brookhaven, Mississippi. Henning stands 5-9 and weighs in at 175. The speedster is a major in Physical Education. While in high school, he was the most valuable back and won the sportsmanship trophy for 1957. He lettered four years in football, basketball, baseball, and one in track. While in college at Colin J.C, he lettered two years in football. Then he transferred to Delta State, there he lettered two years in football and one in golf. Delta State head coach, Horace McCool. stated that Les did a tremendous job this year in our left halfback spot. He was our leading pass receiver (141 yards in 8 catches), our leading kicker I 36 yards per kick average), our leading rusher (502 yards), and our second leading scorer (30 points). We definitely hate to see him graduate. Commenting on Hennjng ' s ability, McCool said, Les shook off minor injuries and showed real spirit and desire that every football player must have if he is to succeed. I sincerely believe he is deserving of this award.
