I ' m not sure liiat the exact qualities were that influenced ray de- cision, but I woiild say her large soft ej es had a lot to do wilii it. GLENN MASON, LH ROBERT PARNELL, LE CHARLES ROBB, LT OZZIE RHODES, RG RICHARD HOWE, RG The Statesmen opened the football season in a big way on Delta field by downing Mississippi College with a 19-7 victory. Sanders and Kendricks were the big scorers in this game. All the points were made in the first half. Delta ' s next match turned out a little differently against Northeast Louisiana in Monroe when they were trounced by a whopping 33-0. Nathan Zametto was high man for the Indians. The next game was the Statesmen ' s homecoming with Troy State Teachers from Alabama. The night was full of excitement for every- one, with Howe and Kendricks starring in touchdowns. Monticello was the next stop for the Statesmen where they played Arkansas A M. This 14-13 victory for DSC was the only road game the Statesmen won. It was a mighty good game all the way, and the men did themselves proud. Another road game put the men in Natchitoches, La., where they took a 26-0 trouncing from Northwest. LEON REGAL, FB KEN LAUDERDALE, QB BOBBY WROTEi , (. BOBBY DELOACH, LG DAVID DODD, RT JOHN HAMNER, LT DAVIS GORDON, FB Livingston State from Alabama invaded Delta field the next week only to go home with their tails between their legs from a 28-0 beating from the Statesmen. Mason and Chapman were the point- makers. Louisiana College was the next on Delta State ' s list of wins. The Statesmen pulled a 20-14 win from the field when an Adams-Parnell pass combination, a TD by Mason, and one by Chapman put Delta in the lead. The eighth game was a blooper as Delta State visited Arkansas Tech and got thumped 14-0. The men fought all the way but could never seem to break the Arkansas barrier. The ninth and final game of the season was played in Florida against Tampa University, one of the toughest teams the Statesmen expected to play. Tampa finally edged Delta out by a score of 27-26. This was a terrific battle and the men were up for the game. With a 5-4 winning record for the year the Statesmen ended the season with a pretty good average. The seniors will be greatly missed on the gridiron next year, but here ' s predicting Coach Chad will come through again as usual.
