President Delta State College Dr. William Marion Kethley during his years as president of Delta State has played a leading role in the development and progress of the school. Under his leadership, new build- ings and new curricula have been added. Student enrollment has increased. Delta State Teachers College has become Delta State College with increased attention to non-teaching fields as well as continued emphasis on the development of teachers. Dr. Kethley ' s sincere friendship toward the students and his intense interest in the betterment of the college have won the admiration and respect of all Delta Statesmen. 12 JOE FARRAR, Ph. D. Tackle Aubrey Rozzell and halfbacks Bradley Sanders and Carl Grubb were outstanding players for Delta State, as was quarterback Norman Wells. In the second gameof the season, Northeast La . handed D.S. its first defeat in 13 games with a 7-0 score. Delta got to the Northeast 12 yard line but could not advance beyond it. Again Delta State was defeated when it met a strong William Carey eleven, this time 19-7. William Carey opened with two quick TD ' s, and Delta was not able to recover. Mike Nichols, Delta State fullback, picked up 66 yards in 12 tries. Delta State was handed its third straight loss by Arkansas A M, 32-20. At half time Delta State led 13-12, but the Boll Weevils came back with 20 more points in the third and fourth quarters. Delta State broke a three game losing streak as it ran roughshod over Mississippi College in Delta State ' s homecoming game. Carl Grubb picked up most of Delta State ' s yardage. M.C. made only three first downs to Delta ' s fourteen and was unable to get past Delta State ' s 30 yard line. The next weekend, Delta State again triumphed, this time over Livingstone State, 39-19. For the third time in a row, Delta trounced its oppone nt — Troy State, 28-7. Carl Grubb made two touchdowns, and Mike Nichols and Rex Nowlin made one each. Brilliant quarterback- ing by Norman Wells added much to Delta State ' s strength. Undefeated, untied, Southeast Mo. ended the 1955 grid season by defeating Delta State 24- 7.
