Joe Farrar. Ph. D. Dean of the Faculty I am told that the theme of the Broom this year is the mimosa tree which the dictionary defines as an act- ing tree because it closes its leaves at night. We love the mimosa trees on our campus not because they close their leaves at night but because they open their leaves and blossoms during the day and share their beauty and strength with all who chance to look. This tree typi- fies in a way, I think, the kind of young men and women we are trying to develop at Delta State — young men and women who will radiate beauty and strength and good ness throughout the broad lands of Mississippi. It is a worthy work we are trying to do. Lets join hands and hearts — faculty, students, alumni, and other friends of the institution — in our efforts that the job may be done well. Good wishes to everyone of you. Joe Farrar

President William Marion Kethley. LL. D. Delta State Teachers College The abundant and beautiful blooms of the pink mimosa trees are a familiar part of our campus land- scape. As these mimosa trees grow and flourish and mul- tiply and flower so abundantly just so do the seeds of character implanted in the disciplines of college life grow and fruit and flower beautifully in the lives of our grad- uates. W. M. Kethley, President
