ALEXANDER VETRANO, Freshman guard, whose hard tackling ability made him a standout in the team ' s defensive play. BALL CLAUDE RANEY, Freshman quarterback, with running and passing ability that was helpful throughout the season. WILLIAM HILL, Junior halfback, who weighed only 148 pounds but tackled with the ferocity of Doc Blanchard. TOMMY BOONE, 135-pound Freshman halfback, whose swiftness made up for his lack of weight. SAM BRIDGERS, Junior halfback, with punting and running ability as well as plenty of determination. FRANK JANOUSH, Freshman fullback, who ran and tackled with skilled accuracy. ROY LIPE, Freshman halfback, with passing and running ability which proved quite effective during the latter part of the season. PAT REYNOLDS, Freshman end, had plenty of scrap and determination lacking only in experience. JAMES SMITH, Freshman end, who had a great pass catching ability and potentiali- ties of a good end. LEO FRANKEL, Freshman inexperienced tackle, who played a great deal of football during the season. BILL MORRIS, Freshman tackle, who played his first game of football this year with aptness and ability. JACK STEPHENSON, Freshman halfback, who had plenty of speed to make him a constant threat each time he took the ball. BILL CONNERS, 130-pound Freshman guard, whose determination was an in- spiring factor. SIM DULANEY, Freshman guard, who was as scrappy as they come, lacking only in weight. RANDOLPH SMITHERS, fancy passing little Freshman quarterback who was un- able to show his ability due to injuries. CHEERLEADERS JOHNNIE BRADDOCK WAYNE DEES MARGARET HOLMES FRED KRUTZ PATSY LA FOE CLYDE WESTON With the first renewal of intercollegiate football at Delta State since the fall of 1941, Coaches Wyatt and Wiley called for the opening practice on September 10 with somewhat of a question as to the material that would be available. The opening practice was somewhat of a surprise, however, as twenty-eight men who ranged from three years ' experience at college football to fellows who had never even seen a football game. The outlook brightened as time went on, with men joining in to play the game just for the sheer fun of playing. By the time the season started, Delta State had a likely looking squad of 36 men who were looking forward to a successful season. The team as a whole is to be greatly commended on its excellent attitude of taking many subjects on one shoulder and the non-sub- sidized football on the other. The team came out with a total of 70 points scored and 67 points scored by opponents.
